Srinagar, December 20, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, senior APHC leader and the Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, has said that promise made by the United Nations to hold a plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir has not been fulfilled despite the passage of over seven decades.
Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar welcoming the UN unanimously passed resolution reaffirming the right to self-determination of peoples of Kashmir and Palestine said that the resolution served to draw world’s attention towards the struggle by the peoples in Kashmir and Palestine to secure their right to self-determination.
He said the continued relevance of right to self-determination sends a strong message of support to peoples of Kashmir and Palestine who still find themselves subjugated. “The way Kashmiri people have remained firm and steadfast in their just movement for right to self-determination despite facing persecution and atrocities of all sorts by Indian troops, we expect people of Pakistan continue to act as a strong advocate of the Kashmir dispute at world forums.”
Ashraf Sehrai urged the UN and the international community to intervene and challenge the behaviour of India towards the Kashmiris and urge it to stop the reign of terror and initiate measures for granting right to self-determination to the people of Kashmir.
He urged the western world to join Pakistan-sponsored resolution on Kashmir passed by the UN and play role in the settlement of the disputes of Kashmir and Palestine if they are really interested to make Kashmir, Palestine and entire region peaceful for future generations.
It is to mention here that the UN General Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a Pakistan-sponsored resolution reaffirming people’s right to self-determination and calling upon countries to immediately cease their foreign military intervention and occupation of other countries and territories, as well as acts of repression, discrimination and maltreatment. The resolution, co-sponsored by a record number of 83 countries, was recommended by the 193-member Assembly’s Third Committee, which deals with social, humanitarian and cultural issues.
