Srinagar, July 10, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that the second report released by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on rights violations in Kashmir testified Hurriyat stand. In the second report on Kashmir in 13 months, the OHCHR has reiterated its observations about the rising graph of human rights violations and the killing of civilians by the state machinery.
Hurriyat forum in a statement issued in Srinagar said the release of the second detailed report on Kashmir documenting the serious human rights violations and pattern of impunity is significant. “The report again reiterates the grave human rights situation in the valley and calls for the urgent need to address the past and ongoing human rights violations and deliver justice to the people in Kashmir,” it said.
The forum urged both India and Pakistan to engage with each other and with the people of Kashmir and to move forward on resolution of the UN acknowledged Kashmir dispute and put an end to bloodshed and human rights violations.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Movement Chairman, Muhammad Sharif Sartaj in a statement in Jammu also hailed the UN report on rights violations in Kashmir saying that the Indian forces were committing these violations in every nook and corner of the territory. He said it is the responsibility of the international community to constitute a commission to probe rights violations in the occupied territory. Jammu and Kashmir People’s League central leaders Aijaz Rehmani and Nisar Ahmad Rathar also lauded the UN report on Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir Voice of Victims while welcoming the report in a statement issued in Srinagar said it covers the human rights violations in Kashmir from May 2018 to April 2019. The OHCHR report highlighted the gross human rights violations done by the military apparatus of India in Kashmir, including enforced disappearances, unlawful killings of the civilians and political activists, rapes, torture, unlawful detentions of journalists’ activists, and maiming of civilians by the forces besides other things, it added.
