UNISAME appreciates SBP’s decision to set up Centre of Excellence

Karachi, July 24, 2018 (PPI-OT): The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises ( UNISAME) appreciated the decision of the National Institute of Banking and Finance ( NIBAF) under the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to set up the Centre of Excellence (CoE) recommended by UNISAME. Zulfikar Thaver president UNISAME said our forum had recommended the CoE and it is indeed very heartening to note that SBP has decided to set up the same.
He said it is needless to explain the benefits of CoE as it is well known to all the stakeholders.

This CoE will improve the efficiency and competency of banking industry in Pakistan. It will enable banking to become modern and in line with global banking concepts and practices. Thaver who is the chairman of the working group on capacity building under the National Financial Inclusion Strategy ( NFIS) said UNISAME has also recommended CoE for all institutions and organizations and would pursue the proposal with the newly elected government to set up CoE for excellence in respective fields of governance and performance.

The technical committee meeting of NFIS is scheduled for 31st July 2018 to be presided by executive director SBP and Thaver said he will impress upon the TC of NFIS to accept and submit the proposals of the working group for a strong SMEDA , strengthened to meet the challenges of the sector, to have CoE in banks, financial institutions and government organizations. The other recommendations are for SME Development Fund, SME Institute, SME Chamber and Pay as you earn schemes for micro and SME sectors. Thaver said the SMES will be given the attention they deserve by the new elected government to be formed shortly.
