Karachi, January 01, 2021 (PPI-OT): The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has advised the MSME sector to roll up its sleeves for hard work for 2021 to recover losses of 2020, says a Press release. President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said now that the COVID-19 vaccination is on the threshold and the spread of the Coronavirus is likely to be curtailed and the CPEC progressing, the year 2021 will offer many opportunities for Pakistan and few other countries as the global markets will look towards Pakistan for their requirements of textiles, food, leather goods, light engineering and services.
He said Pakistan is fortunate to have crops like cotton, rice, wheat, sugarcane, maize, fruits, vegetables and other exportable items like leather goods garments, cement, light engineering goods and general merchandise. He said there is expected to be enhanced trade and a dynamism for revival due to the vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19. The inventories of the global markets will need to be rebuilt and trade will pick up rapidly. Idle money will be reinvested in the economic activities.
Thaver said we have witnessed the trend already in Pakistan with the textile industry getting into gear and many new modern units are being set up. UNISAME experts have urged the government to make efforts to curb inflation wherein the common man is suffering and his survival has become difficult. They urged the government to keep a special eye on pharmaceuticals, food, transportation and education which has become unaffordable. If not all progress will become meaningless.
The government will have to prepare for climatic changes and give best support to the farm sector which is really the backbone. Politics and foreign policy will demand very special and skillful handling by the government to improve the situation which is going to be very challenging. The UNISAME council expressed deep concern about the SME policy and its shortcomings and apprehended its failure due to its non-comprehensive outlook. UNISAME had given roadmap and is disappointed with the policy makers for ignoring high impact agenda given by experts.
