UNISAME vows workers’ welfare

Karachi, May 06, 2022 (PPI-OT): The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) arranged a meeting of its committee on May 1, 2022 at the UNISAME House to commemorate the international labours day, a statement said. UNISAME President Zulfikar Thaver and the committee members pledged to look after their workers and took an oath of conscience to facilitate them with all the requirements as per the factories act.

The members promised to pay the workers fair wages and pay for overtime as prescribed in the act, provide them proper environment and hygienic conditions, ventilation, uniforms, emergency exits and first aid boxes. They also vowed to place fire extinguishers as required and ensure proper training and skill development opportunities to enable the workers to go to the next level in employment and not remain stagnant in lower positions for longer than required.

They promised not to extract tedious work from workers, strictly abide by the contract, reward and appreciate hard work and give incentives to their workers. The UNISAME Council members also requested the workers to ensure that they put in their best efforts matching their wages and remain dedicated and recognise the fact that they will benefit only when the factory prospers.

The members appreciated the fact that during the pandemic, the factory owners took care of their workers and enabled them to cope up with the situation and despite various problems did not block salaries or wages although there was production loss. The workers representative complained about the inflation and high cost of living and urged the government to increase the wages and regretted that the increase in the wages announced by the Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif was reversed by the finance minister Miftah Ismail.
