LARKANA:The Consul General of United States of America in Karachi Mark Stroh has said that cooperation with provincial governments is going on over education and health issues in Sindh and Balochistan. He said so far we have developed 200 schools which are being monitored by the community with our support and cooperation.

He was talking to newsmen at Larkana Press Club here on Tuesday after visiting 5000-years-old world heritage monuments of the Indus Civilization known worldwide as Mohenjo Daro.

Stroh appreciated the services being provided at Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences and praised the provincial government’s efforts to develop it. Mark Stroh said that there was a need for promoting journalistic services for female journalists all over Sindh. Not only are there journalism exchange programs in the USA for encouragement, but there are educational and training programs in Karachi IBA under the Center for Excellence in Journalism in which young people should apply, he added.

During his visit to the ancient site of Mohenjo Daro, Stroh showed keen interest in the historical ruins. He visited the Great Bath, Stupa, old washrooms and museum and was astonished to find that people in those years were living so comfortably. He was briefed about the evolution, importance and historical background of the ruins by the Culture Department Guide. He said that Indus civilization was unusual and extremely important. The US Consul General said in reply to a question from the media that he was not an archaeologist so he could not say whether the civilization should be excavated more in depth but it would be up to the experts to see if the site was examined further.
