US Secretary of State makes surprise visit to Baghdad

Baghdad US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived Wednesday in Baghdad in a surprise visit for talks with Iraqi officials.

In the capital Baghdad, Pompeo met with Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, President Barham Salih, Foreign Minister Mohammed Al-Hakim and Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al Halbousi. He also visited US soldiers stationed in the country.

The US Secretary of State is on a Middle East tour, in which he will reassure allies about the American commitment to the region, as well as encouraging bilateral and regional cooperation and ensuring lasting peace in conflict areas.
