US Senator who heads India Caucus disturbed by restrictions in IOK

Washington, October 08, 2019 (PPI-OT): Powerful Democratic Senator, Mark Warner, who is co-chair of the Senate India Caucus, said on Tuesday has expressed serious concern over the continuous restrictions imposed by India on communications and movement of people in occupied Kashmir. Mark Warner in a tweet said that he was disturbed by restrictions on communications and movement imposed by Indian government in the occupied territory.

Warner, the top Democratic Senator from Virginia, who is also currently a Vice Chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus and the Vice Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, has joined his other Senate colleagues from the Democratic Party in calling India to lift restrictions.

For past several years, he has been Co-Chair of the influential Senate India Caucus which is the only country-specific caucus in the US Senate. Restrictions were imposed on August 5 when New Delhi scrapped the special status of occupied Kashmir under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution and bifurcated it into two Union Territories – Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
