Vaccine Coverage Area improves from 22 to 92% in Punjab BD Media delegation visits ITU: PITB

Lahore, June 30, 2018 (PPI-OT): The automated e-Vaccs system, a Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB)’s technological intervention has improved the vaccine coverage in the Province of the Punjab from 22 % to 92 % during the last three years. It was informed during a briefing to the visiting media persons’ delegation from Bangladesh here today. The delegation members included senior journalists from daily The News Today, The Daily Nayadiganta, The Daily Jugantor, The Independent, The Daily Observer, The Daily Sangram, The Daily New Age, BD News and Entertainment, The Himalay, The Daily Inqilab Bhaban and The New Nation of BD print media.

The delegation was informed that the health, education, agriculture, revenue, land record, law and order, police, crime mapping and other sectors have been completely digitized by adopting ICT during the past six years by completing over 270 projects including e-Stamping, e-Rozgaar, Dengue activity tracking system, e-Vaccs, computerization of all police stations, criminal record management system, HRMIS, Electronic FIR, School information system, Real time monitoring of public schools, Citizen Facilitation and Service Centers i.e. eKhidmat Centers, Job Portal, Business Portal, Citizen Contact Center, Agriculture e-credit scheme, modern Farmer extension services, Kissan Card, Agriculture marketing information service and Hajj operations.

It was further informed that the flagship project e-Stamping of Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has collected revenue worth Rs. 361.459 million recently in one day, which was in excess of the total cost of the project i.e. Rs. 342.062 million while since launch of the project the revenue generated through issuance of 3.0 million electronic stamp papers in the entire province has touched Rs. 80. 56 billion. The delegation took around of various projects including Citizen Call Center, Data Center, METRO Control Room and the Punjab’s largest State of the art e-Khidmat Markaz, which is providing17 various services under one roof.

The Director Academics of Information Technology University briefed the delegation regarding the faculty and various achievements and informed that an accreditation authority, National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC) established by Higher Education Commission has rated CS Department at Information Technology University (ITU) of the Punjab Lahore as “W”, which was the highest rating towards the performance of the ITU.

It has become one of the first Universities in the World to enter into a formal partnership with EdX (MIT and Harvard University online course platform), introducing online learning of two Master programs in Development Studies and Data Sciences. With a special focus on entrepreneurship. ITU. The faculty members have won Rs. 700 million in competitive research grants, published 465 papers in top journals and conferences and made technology that solved local problems in Pakistan.

The delegation took keen interest in the ITU’s functioning and PITB projects and acknowledged the efforts for digitizing the government’s functions. The members of the delegation suggested to entertain BD students in ITU and collaborate with Bangladesh Government in the field of IT and to bring the two States closer to learn from each other’s experiences in various sectors. BD has Tech Universities in all Divisions and a IT Park, they added.
