Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of the Enforcement and Implementation Department of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, and directed that, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Sindh Local Government Act, the work of Enforcement and Implementation across the city should be expedited.

According to a KMC statement, Wahab said the department’s performance report be submitted on a weekly basis to the Mayor’s Secretariat. The Karachi mayor stated that he would personally convene a monthly meeting to review the department’s performance to ensure the implementation of the given directives.

The mayor emphasized that the work of Enforcement and Implementation is crucial for improving the city, so actions against illegal activities, along with imposing fines on the responsible individuals, are necessary to bring everything within the legal framework. He said that no negligence should be tolerated in those matters.

The mayor directed officers and other staff to expedite their work, avoid any illegal activities or misuse of power, and achieve the budget target of Rs175 million for the fiscal year 2024-2025, with an average monthly target of Rs700,000 per town or zone, and a monthly target ranging from Rs1, nine 000,000 to Rs1,200,000 for towns or zones. Hence, no leniency should be shown in this regard.

Relevant Deputy Directors should maintain close coordination with various concerned departments, staff, and district administrations, including the police, to ensure legal assistance is provided. If strong evidence of illegal activities or irregularities is found, or if an officer or official is found absent during a surprise inspection, strict action would be taken against the concerned individual, waned mayor.
