Wani’s anniversary observed across world

Srinagar, July 08, 2018 (PPI-OT): Kashmiris on both sides of the line of control and all across the world observed the second martyrdom anniversary of prominent Kashmiri youth leader, Burhan Muzaffar Wani, today, with the reaffirmation of their pledge to continue the freedom struggle till the martyrs’ mission was duly accomplished.

Complete shutdown, marked by curfew and other restrictions, was observed all across the occupied territory. Call for the strike and a march towards Tral, the hometown of martyr Burhan Wani, was given by the Joint Resistance Leadership. Burhan Wani was killed along with his two associates by the Indian troops in a fake encounter in Kokernag area of Islamabad district on this day in 2016. Thousands of Indian soldiers and police personnel had blocked all roads leading to Tral, the home town of Burhan Wani while curfew was clamped in the town. Train and internet services remained suspended.

However, Kashmiri youth defying curfew and restrictions came out of their houses in several areas and tried to march towards the residence of Burhan Wani in Tral. Indian troops resorted to brute force to prevent the march. Clashes were reported between the protesters and the troops in Nowdal area of the town. The troops fired bullets and teargas on the protesters who pelted them with stones.

A prayer session was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference for Burhan Muzaffer Wani and other martyrs of 2016 uprising at Handwara. Party Chairman Shabbir Ahmed Dar presided over the meeting. The authorities continued to place Hurriyat leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Zafar Akbar Butt, Bilal Siddiqi and Muhammad Yousuf Naqash under house detention or in custody.

The Chairman of All Parties, Syed Ali Gilani in a statement in Srinagar said that Burhan Muzaffar Wani and his associates would be remembered for their exemplary contributions towards the movement. The Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai condemned the Indian forces for killing three civilians including a teenage girl in Kulgam, yesterday. Funeral prayers in absentia were offered for the martyred civilians in Redwani. Rich tributes were paid to Burhan Muzaffar Wani and other Kashmiri martyrs in various functions held in UK, USA, Canada and many other countries of the world.

Jammu and Kashmir chapter of Hurriyet leaders organized a rally in Islamabad to commemorate the second martyrdom anniversary of popular youth leader, Burhan Muzaffar Wani. The participants raised high-pitched pro-freedom and anti-India slogans on the occasion. AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan and Hurriyat leaders spoke on the occasion.
