The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) today awarded a significant consultancy services contract worth Rs116.908 million to Associated Consulting Engineers Limited (ACE). The agreement focuses on unified master planning, engineering design, construction supervision, and contract administration for the WAPDA Hydraulic Model Research and Training Institute at Chichoki Malian, Sheikhupura, with a duration slated for two and a half years.
During a contract signing ceremony at WAPDA House, Dr Khawar Munir, General Manager (Hydro Planning) of WAPDA, and Ghulam Arif Khan, Regional Head North of ACE, signed the contract on behalf of their respective organizations. The event was attended by WAPDA Member Water Jawaid Akhtar Latif, General Manager (C and M) Water Muhammad Azam Joya, and other senior officials.
The project entails establishing a physical hydraulic models construction facility for research and testing, alongside facilities for geo-tech modeling, hydropower model testing, and computer laboratories. It also includes the creation of a water resources and hydropower training institute, as well as the construction of a modern workshop, library, office buildings, hostels, rest house, and staff colony.
WAPDA’s initiative aims to create a state-of-the-art facility to conduct hydraulic model studies of various dam components, canals, and barrages to meet international standards. The institute will be accessible for model studies by other departments, and its future expansion is expected to make Pakistan self-sufficient in conducting both physical and numerical modeling of necessary structures.
