Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis conferred Hilal-e-Imtiaz

Pakistani cricketers Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis have been conferred Hilal-e-Imtiaz the country’s second-highest civilian award while leg spinner Yasir Shah was given Sitara-e-Imtiaz.

The players were conferred awards during a ceremony held at Aiwan e Sadar, Islamabad.

President Arif Alvi gave away the awards.

The legendary left arm fast bowler Waseem Akram is the highest wicket taker in Pakistan cricket history while Waqar Younis is the second highest wicket taker in One Day Internationals for Pakistan.

On the other hand, Yasir Shah became the fastest bowler, in terms of matches, to take 200 Test wickets and break Clarrie Grimmett’s 82-year-old record.

Yasir also holds the record for the best bowling figures for a Pakistan spinner in Tests, 14 for 184 against New Zealand.

Wasim and Waqar are highly-respected commentators and have played their role in enhancing the image of Pakistan and cricket as broadcasters, while Yasir has had a lion’s share in Pakistan’s major Test wins in the recent past.
