KARACHI:Administrator Karachi, Sindh Government Spokesman and CM Advisor on Law Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Saturday said that nations which do not remember their heroes can never develop.

“We have stopped praising our heroes. We need to wake up our nation. The doctors, nurses and paramedics working in COVID-19 are the real heroes who bravely faced the most difficult situations and saved the lives of the people without caring for their own lives,” the Administrator Karachi said this while addressing a function to establish a memorial for the healthcare martyrs.

Dr. Saad Niaz, Chief Executive Officer Getz Pharma Khalid Mehmood, Singer Shehzad Roy, Architect Dabir who designed the monument and a large number of people from different walks of life were present on the occasion. The Administrator Karachi said that it is our misfortune that we consider only those associated with cricket or guns as our heroes.

“The real heroes are Jamshed Nisruwanji, Abdul Sattar Edhi, Dr. Adib Rizvi, Dina Mastri, Mushtaq Chapra,” he said and added that these are the people who set an example by their character and deeds that will be remembered forever.

“Saving the lives of others by sacrificing one’s life is worship. Our doctors, nurses and paramedics worked tirelessly against the epidemic even though they did not have the facilities they deserved,” said Barrister Murtaza Wahab.

He said that a memorial is being set up to commemorate the doctors and paramedics who sacrificed their lives in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, where their names will be inscribed so that future generations will remember our true heroes.

“Health care providers have a great status and we should respect and value them,” he said. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Saad Niaz said that while fighting against the epidemic, the healthcare providers did not give up and 232 doctors and 32 paramedics lost their lives.

“I was offered a medal by the government but I refused as only two doctors were nominated for civil awards,” he said and maintained that the awards should have been given to all the doctors who worked hard against the pandemic.

Dr. Saad Niaz said that they get medals from patients every day. “We forget our heroes which is our misfortune,” he added. He was of the view that we must prepare for the future so that we can deal with any epidemic. Speaking on the occasion, Getz Pharma CEO Khalid Mahmood said that the epidemic of COVID-19 had taught us a lot. “The nation should praise those who have saved the lives of their people.
