A woman, who was reportedly fell victim to a gang rape by security guards at Children’s Hospital Sheikhupura, has tragically ended her own life, local police revealed on Thursday.

According to authorities, the victim had visited Children’s Hospital Sheikhupura to inquire about her niece’s health. Upon arrival, she was lured into a separate room under the guise of her niece’s medical examination, where she was allegedly raped by three security guards.

Subsequently, the victim, in a state of despair, committed suicide by taking poisonous pills.

District Police Officer (DPO) Bilal Zafar Sheikh informed that initially, a kidnapping case was registered based on the victim’s disappearance, which was later amended to incorporate charges related to rape.

A special investigation team, under the supervision of Additional SP Farhat Abbas, has been formed to probe the matter.

Furthermore, DPO Sheikh highlighted that the security personnel employed by the hospital were not subjected to clearance procedures by Special Branch and other intelligence agencies.

Police have disclosed the arrest of one suspect, who purportedly confessed to his involvement in the crime. Efforts were underway to apprehend the remaining two suspects identified as Adil and Hafiz.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz have taken cognizance of the incident, demanding detailed reports from pertinent authorities.
