Srinagar, April 23, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, expressing serious concern over the deteriorating condition of incarcerated JKLF Chief, Muhammad Yasin Malik, has warned that Indian rulers shall have to face the consequences if anything untoward happened to the detained leader. The APHC Chairman in a statement issued in Srinagar, today, also condemned the continued grilling of his elder son Dr Nayeem Gilani by India’s infamous National Investigation Agency (NIA) in New Delhi.
Syed Ali Gilani said people all over the world are fighting for their political rights but occupied Kashmir is the only exception where the political voices are being crushed with judicial onslaught, registering sedition cases against them through so-called and biased investigating agencies which are not sparing even family members of the resistance leaders. He said even the brutalities have its own limits, beasts too get exhausted but Indian atrocities, their unjust behaviour and the iron-fist seem to have no end. He said that by using its military might, India had tried its best to crush the Kashmiris’ legitimate freedom movement but had utterly failed to do so and no power on earth would be able to deter them from pursuing their much cherished goal of right to self-determination.
Seriously concerned about the plight of the Kashmiri prisoners lodged in the jails of the occupied territory and in India, the APHC Chairman said that the government of India had waged a war against Kashmiris on every front. “Daily killings in the name of “operation all out” have put every conscious individual within the firing range of coercive measures. In the deceitful narrative of hyper nationalism, to pave the way to grab power, BJP leaders have filled the prisons with the Kashmiris. They sell their aggressive posture, through their paid media houses to befool their vote bank,” he maintained.
Syed Ali Gilani said that many pro-freedom people were arrested on false charges and were lodged in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail and were denied legal aid. He said that these detainees included Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Dr Ghulam Muhammad Butt, Altaf Ahmed Shah, Ayaz Muhammad Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Raja Merajuddin Kalwal, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Shahid-ul-Islam, Syed Shahid Yousuf, Syed Shakeel Ahmed and businessman, Zahoor Ahmed Watali. He said that even women leaders, Aasiya Andrabi, Fehmeeda Sofi and Naheeda Nasreen were not spared and they too faced the wrath of oppression and were lodged in Tihar Jail.
The APHC Chairman said that Indian rulers had themselves made a joke of their so-called democracy and court decisions were influenced by the region and faith of the accused amounting to gross violation of judicial norms, the recent example of which is the rejection of the bail granted by Delhi High Court in favour of Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Ahmed Watali which was not only surprising but put a big question mark on the free and fair legal system of world’s so-called largest democracy. “Although in past also our people have faced the biased judicial system to satisfy collective conscience of Indians, but recent media outburst of four senior Supreme Court judges, speaks volumes of favouritism and political influence in judiciary,” he pointed out.
Syed Ali Gilani said on one hand, Samjhauta Express bomb blasts accused, even after accepting his crime, is bailed out, just because those killed were from a particular religion and region, while on the other, every conscious Kashmiri, not willing to became the turncoat and stooge of the ruling class, is intimidated, maimed, arrested and even eliminated.
The APHC Chairman said Kashmiri prisoners are making history with their courage, steadfastness, patience and commitment, particularly those facing life imprisonment like Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Dr Muhammad Shafi Shariyati, Ghulam Qadir Butt, Feroz Ahmed Butt, Bilal Ahmed Kota, Bashir Ahmed Baba, Sheikh Nazir Ahmed, Muhammad Ayoub Mir, Muhammad Ayoub Dar, Ali Muhammad Butt, Latief Ahmed, Mirza Nisar, Abdul Ghani Goni, Mehmood Topiwala, Javaid Ahmed Khan, Parvez Ahmed Mir, Ghulam Muhammad Butt, Dr Waseem and others.
Syed Ali Gilani said that many Kashmiris were facing detention under draconian law, Public Safety Act, like Masarrat Aalam Butt, who has been booked under the PSA more than 35 times, and others including Muhammad Yousuf Falahi, Abdul Ghani Butt, Maulana Sarjan Barkati and recently slapped with the black law, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr Abdul Hameed Fayaz, Advocate Zahid Ali, Maulana Mushtaq Veeri and others.
He said now Srinagar Central Jail also wears a look of Tihar where relatives of detainees are kept waiting for hours together in the name of questioning and frisking and then made to see their loved ones behind the two layer iron net, which is distressing for both prisoners and the relatives, particularly kids. The APHC Chairman appealed to the international community and world human rights organizations to compel the Indian authorities to, at least, honour and obey their own laws and stop the revengeful attitude towards the Kashmiri political prisoners.
