In a significant development, Sindh’s Senior Minister for Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, today announced that the Yellow Line BRT project will be completed by May 2025, five months ahead of the original timeline of September 2025.
During his visit to the construction site, Memon emphasized that no delays would be tolerated and underscored the Sindh government’s commitment to enhancing public transport facilities in Karachi.
Accompanied by Secretary of the Transport Department Asad Zaman and Project Director Zameer Abbasi, Memon reviewed the project’s progress. Consultants outlined the challenges, particularly utility-related issues, which the government is determined to address. The minister assured that obstacles concerning the Red Line BRT, including those involving the Civil Aviation Authority and Water Board, would soon be resolved.
Memon also highlighted efforts to maintain stable fares for the Green Line while introducing additional facilities. He called on the Prime Minister to deliver on his promise of providing 180 buses for the city, stressing this as a right for Karachi’s citizens.
In addressing women’s transport needs, Memon announced initiatives like free Pink Scooters for working women and an upcoming Pink Taxi Service. Furthermore, the Sindh government has launched the “I Work for Sindh” app to enhance employment opportunities for the youth. Memon reiterated that these projects aim to provide modern transport solutions for Karachi’s residents.
