ZAB’s death anniversary tomorrow: Sindh leads in serving people amid coronavirus as per Bhutto’s vision

KARACHI:Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Sharmila Farooqi said on Friday that Sindh is the sole province of Pakistan which has got lead in serving the people amid difficult coronavirus situation as Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto always called for serving people with true spirit and his vision of that real power lies people and we believe in serving them.

“PPP with all its leaders is fully committed to continuing its efforts to take forward the vision of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for serving masses and also ensuring real democracy in the country,” she said in a statement on eve of the death anniversary of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto being observed on April 4.

She said the nation remembers Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on his death anniversary as he was an iconic leader and a symbol of real democracy, who rose to Pakistan’s political arena with spirit of national politics. Bhutto gave Pakistan the 1973 Constitution, which was widely applauded and is still intact. The credit for making Pakistan a nuclear state also goes to him. He sacrificed his life for the cause of the nation, democracy and integrity of Pakistan.

The PPP leader said Bhutto allowed the trade unions and students unions for their rights and served the people irrespective of their political affiliations, race and religion. “He made the people of Pakistan realize democracy in true spirit and follow it for the best interest of people and its country. He was a true leader for the country’s people, but unfortunately anti-democracy forces did not let him complete his mission of making the country prosperous by executing him. His political philosophy and economic policies also fully supported labour community” Sharmila recalled.

She said that ZA Bhutto was a great and popular leader who attracted large crowds in public meetings in the country for his true politics and love with the nation. She saluted Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for laying foundation of real democracy in Pakistan, which is still being followed by the PPP.

Sharmila said Bhutto also struggled for the right of self-determination to the people of Kashmir and today his party was also supporting this cause at all political forums, including UN. Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto is renowned for fighting for the Kashmir cause as he had said that we share history, geography, religion, blood and culture with the Kashmiri people, she added.

Sharmila recalled that In 1957, Bhutto became the youngest member of Pakistan’s delegation to the United Nations. He addressed the UN Sixth Committee on Aggression that October and led Pakistan’s delegation to the first UN Conference on the Law of the Sea in 1958. That year, Bhutto became Pakistan’s youngest cabinet minister, taking up the reins of the Ministry of Commerce.

She said: “In 1960, he was promoted to Minister of Water and Power, Communications and Industry. Bhutto aided his president in negotiating the Indus Water Treaty in India in 1960 and next year negotiated an oil-exploration agreement with the Soviet Union, which agreed to provide economic and technical aid to Pakistan.

Believing in pan-Islamic unity, Bhutto developed closer relations with the likes of Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. He had also established an atomic power development programme and inaugurated the first Pakistani atomic reactor.” Sharmila said that Bhutto became the prime minister on 14 August 1973 and his government made extensive reforms at every level of government. His policies were seen people-friendly.
