Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori today identified Pakistan’s weak tax collection as its most significant financial challenge, expressing grave concern that the salaried class is shouldering a disproportionate burden while high-income groups frequently evade their fiscal responsibilities.

The governor shared these remarks during a meeting with probationary officers from the 51st Special Training Program of the Inland Revenue Service Academy, part of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), at the Governor House. The dialogue centered on the national economy, reforms in the taxation framework, and strategies for effective revenue collection.

Mr. Tessori asserted that no country can achieve sustainable economic growth without a fair and transparent system of taxation. He described the Inland Revenue Service as the “backbone of the national economy,” underscoring that the integrity, training, and proficiency of its officers are fundamental to a strong fiscal structure.

He advised the tax officials to remain accessible to the public, ensuring that the grievances of ordinary citizens are addressed promptly and efficiently. Restoring public trust in the system was presented as a key objective.

The governor also took the opportunity to highlight social welfare programs initiated from his office, including free modern IT courses for youth, the “Bell of Hope” for public grievance redressal, laptop distribution for students, and the provision of ration to deserving families.

Concluding his address, Governor Tessori underlined that for the establishment of a robust and transparent system, every individual must recognize their national duty. He stated that only through collective responsibility can Pakistan advance on the path of progress.
