Karamullah Waqasi, the spokesperson for the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), today issued a sharp rebuke against Muneem Zafar, advising him to concentrate on the severe civic problems within his jurisdiction instead of engaging in daily press conferences. Waqasi highlighted that the challenges of inadequate roads, water scarcity, and poor sanitation are significantly more acute in areas administered by Zafar”s party.

Waqasi, who also serves as the KMC”s Parliamentary Leader, criticized Jamaat-e-Islami”s political approach, asserting that the party has consistently pursued a policy of censure while remaining disconnected from practical solutions. “You have long claimed to serve this city; your party’s mayors have held office three times in Karachi, yet they failed to solve its problems,” he stated.

The spokesperson accused Jamaat-e-Islami of preferring media appearances and social media attacks over tangible fieldwork. He claimed it was only after Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab exposed the condition of the party”s towns and disclosed their budget details that their town chairmen initiated some road construction activities.

In contrast, Waqasi presented Mayor Wahab and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) as being consistently active in public service, especially during events like monsoon rains and major festivals. He credited Wahab with directly overseeing the restoration of 106 roads, the comprehensive cleaning of drains, and the resurfacing of streets across the metropolis.

“We do not believe in protest politics – we do not hang banners or hoardings – instead, we are working tirelessly day and night to restore Karachi to its former glory as the City of Lights,” Waqasi asserted. He emphasized that this approach reflects PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari”s vision of service through action.

He listed several major undertakings supervised by Mayor Wahab, including the Shahrah-e-Bhutto, Hub Dam Project, K-IV Water Project, Malir Murghi Khana Bridge, and Korangi Causeway. The spokesperson added that development initiatives are currently in progress across 140 Union Committees of Karachi.

Waqasi called on Jamaat-e-Islami to “abandon its destructive politics” and participate constructively for the betterment of the city. He concluded by framing the PPP”s agenda as one focused on development and public welfare, while characterizing Jamaat-e-Islami”s strategy as being limited to “blame and show politics.”
