A severe cold wave has gripped the country’s mountainous and northern regions, with temperatures dropping below freezing, while the Meteorological Department has also predicted the possibility of smog and fog in the plains of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday.

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will remain predominantly cold and dry in most parts of the country.

Conditions are expected to be particularly severe during the morning and night hours, with severe cold expected in the mountainous regions.

According to temperatures recorded in major urban centers this morning, Islamabad was at six, Lahore at twelve, Karachi at sixteen, and Peshawar at ten degrees Celsius. The tourist destination of Murree recorded four degrees Celsius, while Muzaffarabad recorded five.

The lowest temperatures were recorded in Quetta and Gilgit, where the mercury dropped to minus one and minus three degrees Celsius, respectively.

This morning, temperatures in the region were minus one degree Celsius in Srinagar, Pulwama, and Baramulla. Anantnag and Shopian were at zero, Jammu at nine, while Leh recorded a severely cold minus eight degrees Celsius.
