Medicine dues: SHC summons two provincial secretaries for reply

KARACHI:Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday summoned secretaries of finance and local government departments on a petition against nonpayment of dues regarding the medicines in government hospitals.

A two-member bench of the SHC heard the petition filed by the city government seeking due payment for medicines from Sindh government. The court summoned both the secretaries and ordered them to give explanation regarding the nonpayment of dues of medicines.

The city government filed the petition through its counsel Sameer Ghazanfar who submitted with the bench that Sindh government had approved amount for medicines in 13 hospitals. He said medicines had been used but secretary finance had stopped the amount.

He said now medicine companies were registering cases against the city government due to nonpayment of dues. He said there were more than Rs170 million, but the Sindh government was not ready to pay.

Assistance Advocate General Sindh informed the court that Secretary Finance had been asked in this regard and they were waiting for his reply.

The bench remarked that it had directed secretary finance during the last hearing for his reply but he did not submit yet.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing till 14 November.
