KARACHI:Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday ordered release of accused convicted in a 10-year-old girl’s rape case.
A two-member bench of the SHC heard a plea filed by convict Gulzar Ahmed against death sentence awarded to him by a trial court in 2018. The court announced its judgment and declared trial court’s decision as null and void.
The bench also ordered the prison authorities to release the appellant forthwith if his custody was not required in any other case.
A session court had awarded him death sentence in 2018 after rape charges were proved against him. The court had also imposed fine of Rs0.5 million on him. The case against the accused was registered at Jackson police station.
