Update: 3 children die after vaccination in Nawabshah, 10 others hospitalized

Nawabshah: Three children here died allegedly after vaccination, while 19 others were rushed to a Karachi hospital in critical condition here on Sunday.

The lady health worker who administered the vaccination fled, while the parents charged that their children died due to administration of some expired vaccination.

The incident took place in Double Road area of Old Nawabshah. The deceased children were identified as one year old Hassnain Brohi, one year old Hania Noor and six month old Qamaruddin.

However, citizens protested on the Sanghar Road and suspended traffic by burning old tiers.

Deputy Commissioner Nauman Siddique ordered providing ambulance service and Rs50000 cash to the parents of 10 seriously ill children and they were sent to a private hospital of Karachi, despite the fact that a medical university hospital is present in Nawabshah. However, it lacks proper facilities and serious patients of Nawabshah are rushed to Hyderabad or Karachi.

Sindh health minister Dr Sikander Mandhro regretted the incident and said a thorough investigation has already been ordered. He said strict action would be taken if any health official found involved in any negligence.

DHO Nawabshah Dr Ghulam Mujtaba Memon said a probe committee has already been formed headed by senior medical officer Dr Moeen Shiekh.
