SHC seeks details of compensation for factory fire affectees

KARACHI:Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday directed the counsel of a NGO, Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research (PILER), to submit reply regarding the compensation paid to the affected families of Baldia factory fire incident. The court heard the petition filed by PILER against Sindh government for not releasing further compensation to the affected families as per the announcement of provincial minister Nasir Hussain Shah.

The court directed the PILER’s counsel Faisal Siddiqui to inform it on the 13th March that who gave how much compensation to the affected families.

The petitioner stated that provincial minister Nasir Hussain Shah on the 1st May 2018 had announced further compensation of Rs560million for the affected families.

Another advocate Usman Farooq told the court that a German company had given Rs600mn SESSI for the families of all 209 victims of the Baldia factory fire incident.

SHC dissatisfied at police performance on recovery of missing men

KARACHI:Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday heard a set of petitions pertaining to recovery of more than 60 missing persons. The court expressed its anger over the performance of police for making no progress in tracing the whereabouts of missing persons.

A two-member bench of the SHC, headed by Justice Naimtullah Phulputo, heard the petitions and expressed annoyance at police for not recovering the missing men. The bench directed the department concerned to take effective measurements to trace the missing citizens.

The bench instructed the police to get help from other provinces and directed the police to review travel history of the missing citizens. The brother of citizen Saeed Muhammad Asif told the court that his brother had been missing since four years. He stated that despite formation of 10 Joint Investigation Teams (JITs), there was no information about his brother.

Family members of Muhammad Shahid, who is said to be Lyari gangwar, appealed to the court to recover their beloved ones. The police told the court that accused was proclaimed offender in three cases registered at Baghdadi Police Station. ‘’When we conducted a raid to arrest the accused Muhammad Shahid, we were informed that he is missing since 2015,’’ the police said.

Another petitioner stated that Muhammad Youis disappeared in 2015 from a factory where he was working. ‘Seven JITs were formed in four years but my brother could not bet recovered,’’ he told the court. All families requested the court to recover their missing men. The court assured them and remarked that it was taking efforts for the recovery of missing men. The bench adjourned the hearing by seeking an updated report pertaining to the recovery of missing men.

However, same bench also heard the petition regarding the recovery of two sons. Hussun Bano, the mother of two sons, Hanif, who is missing since four years and Suhail, who is missing since 4 months, went emotional during the hearing and stated that there was no any other door where she could raise her voice.

She stated: “Being mother, I am in trauma due to the missing of my two sons, I request the court to recover my both son.’’ Justice Naimtullah Phulputo directed the police to take every possible effort to recover both man. “The negligence of police and other law enforcement agencies is going out of tolerance,’’ justice remarked.

The bench sought reply from home department, IGP Sindh, DG Rangers and others regarding the recovery of both men.

ACCA Pakistan celebrates 208,000 member milestone

Karachi:The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Pakistan welcomed its new members and recognised its high achievers from across the country in glittering ceremonies in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad on February 18, 19 and 21, respectively.

Themed ‘Strategic Business Leaders | Capacity and Character’, the New Member Ceremonies celebrated the achievement of ACCA members who attained the membership milestone from January 01, 2018 till December 31, 2018 as well as national and global place winners during the same period. The new members are part of the vibrant global ACCA community of more than 208,000 members in 183 countries.

The British High Commission Islamabad joined ACCA as a co-organiser for the all three ceremonies.

The ceremony was graced by distinguished guests from Government, public-sector businesses, leading organisations and think tanks. These celebratory evenings were also a useful networking opportunity for new ACCA members to meet senior members and renowned employers.

CM: (Buzdar approves launching of projects for deserving women, senior citizens)

ISLAMABAD:Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has approved launching of special projects for welfare of deserving women, children and senior citizens in the province.

He gave the approval at a meeting of Board of Punjab Social Protection Authority in Lahore on Thursday. The meeting also decided to establish One Window Welfare Counter to provide services of Social Protection Authority at the e-Service Centres for deserving people.

FUUAST stages rally to support Pak armed forces

KARACHI:Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) on Thursday took out a rally to express solidarity with Pakistan’s armed forces and condemn Indian aggression.

A large number of students, teachers, activists of various political parties and civil society, carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of the security forces, chanted slogans against Indian aggression.

Addressing the rally, vice-chancellor of the varity Dr Altaf Husain said that Pakistan wanted peace but Indian rulers were waging a war for their nefarious designs. Pakistan had always tried to avoid war.

VC said there could not be any compromise on Pakistan’s integrity that was why all political and religious forces were united regardless of their political differences, he said.

He feared and said that increasing tension between Pakistan and India was threatening world peace. Rulers on both sides should resolve all bilateral issues through dialogue.

He accused India of pushing the region into war. He said that Modi’s team was spreading hatred against Pakistan through media and urged United Nations to take notice of the Indian aggression.

“Today’s massive show proves that the entire nation is with the armed forces and stands behind them in every time,” he said.

He congratulated the armed forces for their successes in shooting down Indian military jets, adding that the nation prays for the armed forces’ success at every platform.

FO: (Pakistan ready for dialogue with India on all issues including terrorism: FO)

ISLAMABAD:Foreign office Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal has reiterated that Pakistan is ready for dialogue with India on all issues including terrorism.

Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, he said the issue of Kashmir is the core one and will always be integral to any such dialogue.

About the escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, he said we have activated the UN Military Observer Group for India and Pakistan and the Group will be taken for a visit to the site where the Indian Airforce jets were shot down.

The spokesperson confirmed that a dossier was received from India today and action will be taken on any actionable intelligence if found there in the dossier regarding the Pulwama incident as it has been assured by Pakistan.

Uproot violence, strengthen Pakistan, say ‘daughters of the nation’

Karachi:Our armed forces are very much capable to respond each and every attacks and ill-plans of the enemy at the boarder or elsewhere in the country. The forces can defend every inch of the country but we need to reduce the internal and domestic challenges being faced by the countrymen. Our prime responsibility is that we strengthen them by uprooting extremism and violent mindsets from Pakistan.

Our enemies have always attempt to create and spread unrest in the country but, if, we stand together then we can foil their conspiracies easily and more effectively. We have to counter enemy’s ill-desires and unity would be our main weapon in this regard.

These views were expressed by the experts during the one-day Dukhtaraan-e-Pakistan: Envoy of Peace seminar held on Thursday at the Arts Auditorium, University of Karachi.

The chief guest and the provincial minister for Women Development, Syeda Shehla Raza expressed that Pakistani soldiers had safely picked up the Indian pilot and presented him in front of national televisions so that the whole country and world could witnessed how we treat our enemies.

“The captured pilot Indian Air Force Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was not torture at all while one of the Pakistani prisoners was killed by others in one of the Indian jails. Being a nation we have given a clear message to the world that we are peaceful nation and only retaliate when our enemies create disturbance and such actions are meant to defend the country.”

She said that for the last two decades Pakistan is facing war-like situation and this is due to presence of violent and extremist mindsets. Owing to their activities, we have lost more lives than the wars in past and world has also labeled as terrorist nation.

“We have to trace those elements, who mislead and misguide our youngsters, to carry out suicide attacks in the name of religion. Although, we all knows that this is against the teaching of Islam but, some elements are exploiting the youngsters by giving them false interpretation of Islamic teaching.”

She urged to defeat the mindset which tries to promote violence and extremism in the country and asked not to let anyone use the name of religion for their own benefits. Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor KU Professor Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan asked the female students to utilize their degrees after completing their education rather than sitting back at homes.

He observed that one of main problems is that we did not see many professionals in the society as a large numbers of female students did not go into the field and sit back at homes. “We can do lot of things if we have made commitments and adopt practical approach towards the situation.”

He observed that education is more powerful than weapons and we need to develop culture which promotes education. He pointed out that youth is the source of power and they have to realize that they could do wonders for the country by utilizing their education.

The Chairperson, Sindh Commission on the status of Women, Nuzhat Shirin, shared that women must know about their rights and who should be approached if they need any help. She said that very low percentage of women in Sindh is aware about their rights.

She said that good results could only achieve if public has complete knowledge about the law. The Director General, Islamic Research Institute, International Islamic University, Islamabad, Professor Dr Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, while talking about significance of peace narratives, said that at the boarders, our soldiers are active and responding well to every kind of violations, but the nation has to defeat the narrative of its enemy which was launched to destroy our beloved country.

He further said that enemy is afraid to fight us and that is why it has decided to invest huge money on our own people who have been misguided by enemy’s narrative and those people were carrying out violent activities in the country.

“This is so unfortunate that attempts were made to destroy this country by its own people who have been misguided by enemy’s narrative.” He shared that one of the Indian TV channel aired a program in which host asked whether the Indian government would attack Pakistan. The expert replied that they would not attack because Pakistani Air Force would bring down our planes but he claimed that Indian government would use Pakistani people to create panic and chaos to destabilize the country.

Professor Dr Zia added that we need to promote harmony in the country and women could do it better than men by teaching their children what is good for the society what is not. “In case, our enemy tried to attack us, it will face what happened yesterday, but to defeat its narrative, we have to end the hatred and intolerance from the society.

He informed the audience that over 7, 000 religious scholars have signed Paigham-e-Pakistan documents and Dukhtaraan-e-Pakistan is also one of its initiatives.

The Dean, JPMC, President of Pakistan Society of Psychology, Professor Dr Muhammad Iqbal Afridi discussed anger and stress management issue while the Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Aga Khan University, Dr Rubeena Kidwai discussed impact of hormonal changes on human behavior.

Earlier, the Director of the Institute of Sustainable Halophyte Utilization, KU, Professor Dr Bilquees Gul, while delivering the welcome address, urged that educated women should come forward and play their positive role in bringing positive changes in the country.
