AVLC arrests five vehicle lifter

KARACHI:Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) on Monday claimed to have arrested five vehicle snatchers from, New Karachi, Orangi and Clifton areas, respectively.

According to AVLC sources, New Karachi, Orangi and Clifton teams of AVLC conducted raids and arrested five accused identified as Aftab, Arsalan, Karim, Yaseen, and Majeed Ahmed. The officials claimed to have recovered five snatched motorcycles from their possession. The five cases were registered against each at Pakistan Bazar and Baloch Colony police stations.

Minor girl perished in road accident

KARACHI:A minor girl was killed after being hit by a car near Nawabshah on Monday.

According to rescue sources, the girl, Reshman, aged 8, a daughter of Allah Wasayo, was struck by the speeding car on the road at Paki Chowdagi area near Nawabshah. As a result, she suffered severe injuries and died shortly after the accident.

She was rushed to a local hospital for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to the heirs. No case could be filed till filing this report. The incident has created a mourning atmosphere among the parents and relatives.

Markets in Sindh to close by 10:00 pm; meal at marriage halls banned

KARACHI:The provincial government announced on Monday that in view of coronavirus situation, all markets in Sindh will be closed by 10:00 pm by April 15.

A notification issued by Sindh home ministry says meal at marriage halls has been banned while only 300 guests are allowed at the marriage ceremonies till 10:00 pm in the province. The indoor dining at hotels and restaurants has also been banned. However, they could serve food through home delivery.

All government and private offices will have to depute 50 percent staff while other half of the staff will have to work from home. Wearing of masks at all public places has also been made mandatory during this period.

The cinemas and mazars will also remain closed for public to avoid contraction of coronavirus. The deputy commissioner has been authorized to enforce smart lockdown in any part of the city in view any rise in coronavirus cases.

Moot discusses development budget for varsities

QUETTA:A meeting to discuss development budget for the universities of Balochistan was held in the Conference Hall of Planning and Development Department on Monday with Abddullah Khan, Secretary, Implementation, Planning and Development Department in the chair.

The meeting thoroughly discussed proposals for development budget to be earmarked for the universities of Balochistan. It was attended, inter alia, by Ghous Bakhsh Marri, Chief Economist, Planning and Development Department, Hameedullah Nasar, Additional Secretary, Colleges, Higher and Technical Education Department, Raheem Mengal, Chief of Section (Education), Planning and Development Department.

Minister: (Interior Minister in Qatar to attend Milipol exhibition)

ISLAMABAD:The 13th three-day International Event for Homeland Security and Civil Defence, Milipol Qatar 2021 began in Doha today (Monday).

International thought leaders and officials will participate in the seminar to lay out pathways to a safer world. Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed will represent Pakistan at the Event.

He will also speak at the international expo and visit the Pakistan stall there. The Interior Minister will also meet the Prime Minister of Qatar and hold delegation level talks to increase bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed will hold talks to promote trade relations between the two countries and also discuss increase in export of Pakistan manpower to Qatar. He will hand over a special letter of the Prime Minister Imran Khan to Emir of Qatar.

SHC rejects bail plea of FBR inspector, others

KARACHI:The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday rejected an appeal filed by an Inspector of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and others against sentence in sale tax refund case.

The high court rejected the appeal of FBR Inspector Mumtaz Nizami, Muhammad Asif and Adil Ashraf.

The court considered the time spent by the accused in jail as a sentence. The court ordered to maintain the amount of fine Rs10000000 on the accused. The court also upheld the order disqualifying the accused from holding public and government posts.

According to the NAB prosecutor RD Kalhoro, the accused formed fake companies with the connivance of FBR inspector and got a tax refund.

The accused caused more than Rs 11 crore of damage to the national exchequer, NAB prosecutor said

The Accountability court had sentenced five years of jail term to Mumtaz Nizamani and 10 years to Asif and Adil Ashraf each. The accused have spent seven years and five months in jail.

PM: (Olive plantation to help address climate change, increase exports of country: PM)

ISLAMABAD:Prime Minister Imran Khan has said olive plantation will help address climate change and increase exports of the country.

Addressing the launching ceremony of olive plantation campaign in Nowshera district on Monday, the Prime Minister said Pakistan spends a lot on import of edible oil that can be reduced with the production of olive oil locally by planting olive trees particularly on western bank of the Sindh River.

He said food security is a serious challenge for Pakistan as the country imports sugar, wheat, oil and ghee. He said the fast growing population adds to this challenge.

The Prime Minister said the production of olive oil can also generate news jobs and flourish businesses in the country.

He said the primary objective of the PTI government’s ten billion tree tsunami project is to safeguard our generations from the effects of climate change.

He asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to use the Miyawaki method of plantation in Peshawar to tackle the growing issue of pollution in the city.

Imran Khan said the government is including fruit trees in Ten Billion Tree Tsunami, which will create new employment opportunities. He said areas will be divided in different zones scientifically to plant specific fruit trees.

Highlighting Pakistan’s vulnerability in climate change, the Prime Minister urged the youth to participate in plantation campaigns in their areas.
