Naval Chief, Azerbaijan envoy discuss regional security

ISLAMABAD: Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan Ali Alizada called on Naval Chief Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi here on Tuesday.

 

The two sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, including bilateral defence cooperation and regional security. The visiting dignitary lauded Pakistan and the Pakistan Navy, in particular, for gathering countries around the world on a single platform through Peace Exercises.

 

Sri Lankan Monks visit Badshahi Mosque, Lahore Fort

ISLAMABAD: A delegation comprising senior Buddhist Monks from Sri Lanka visited Badshahi Mosque and Lahore Fort in Lahore on Tuesday.

 

Speaking on this occasion, Chief Abbot and President, Dharma Vijaya Buddhist Vihara, USA Venerated Dr Walpola Piyananda said that every religion has given a message of peace and harmony.

 

He said Pakistan has always helped Sri Lanka in the hour of need, including assistance towards counter-terrorism measures. He hoped that the Pakistan government would take further steps to promote religious tourism.

 

FM Qureshi in Tehran for talks with Iranian leadership

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi reached Tehran on Tuesday on a three-day official visit to Iran for talks with the Iranian leadership on bilateral relations and regional situation.

 

He was warmly received by Iranian Foreign Minister’s Advisor and Director General at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Syed Rasool Mousavi, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran Rahim Hayat Qureshi and senior officers at the Pakistani Embassy at Imam Khomeini International Airport, Tehran.

 

During the visit, the Foreign Minister will meet Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif and other senior Iranian leadership. Bilateral cooperation, promotion of economic linkages and other matters of mutual interest, including regional situation and international affairs will be discussed in these meetings.

 

The two foreign ministers will hold delegation-level talks on the entire spectrum of bilateral relations with focus on further deepening cooperation in diverse fields. The two sides will discuss regional security situation including the latest developments in the Afghan Peace Process and the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. They will also deliberate on strengthening regional cooperation under the umbrella of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

Any artificial increase in prices of essential commodities will not be tolerated: Buzdar

ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has said any artificial increase in prices of essential commodities will not be tolerated.

 

Chairing a meeting of Provincial Ministers in Lahore, he reviewed measures for provision of relief to the people under Ramadan package, progress on development projects in the province and sanitation arrangements in Lahore.

 

The Chief Minister said government will continue to take every possible step for protection of rights of the people. He directed the Provincial Ministers to visit Ramzan Bazaars to monitor relief activities.

 

He directed to ensure hundred percent implementation of Corona Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in Ramadan bazaars across the province.

 

The Chief Minister also directed the concerned authorities to complete development projects within the stipulated time across the province and improve sanitation arrangements in all cities including Lahore.

 

Chinese Ambassador calls on KP Governor

ISLAMABAD: Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong called on Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shah Farman in Peshawar.

 

During the meeting, the Governor apprised the ambassador about investment opportunities in five extraordinary fields of the province. These fields include olives, honey, fresh and dry fruits, saffron and precious stones. He said investment in these fields will create vast employment opportunities, eventually resulting in economic growth.

 

The Chinese Ambassador Nong Rong showed great interest in working in the said five fields for investment. He expressed full support of the embassy for promoting the natural resources of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Chinese investment companies. Chairman China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority Lt Gen (r) Asim Saleem Bajwa was also present on the occasion.

 

President directs to ensure protection of policy holders’ interests

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has directed the Federal Insurance Ombudsman to ensure protection of the policy holders’ interests.

 

He was talking to Federal Insurance Ombudsman Dr Muhammad Khawar Jamil who called on him here on Tuesday and presented report for the year 2020. The President said the Federal Insurance Ombudsman should provide immediate justice in cases of maladministration of insurance companies, and in this regard scope of the institution should be further widened.

 

On the directions of the President, a relief of 2.13 billion rupees was provided to the affected insurance policyholders. Despite the coronavirus, 2183 complaints were addressed during the last year.

Two-week long special cleanliness campaign begins in KP

ISLAMABAD: The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has started two weeks long special cleanliness campaign across the province.

 

The government has appealed the public to extend cooperation with sanitation staff to make the drive successful through joint efforts.

 

The aim of this campaign is to increase awareness among the public about cleanliness to make and keep their surroundings clean.
