Ambassador of Morocco, Naval Chief discuss security situation, bilateral relations

ISLAMABAD: Ambassador of Morocco to Pakistan Mohamed Karmoune called on Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi here on Friday.

They discussed matters related to mutual interest, security situation and bilateral relations. Mohamed Karmoune appreciated Pakistan’s operational preparedness, acquisition of modern technology and steps taken for self-reliance in shipping industry. Both the dignitaries reiterated the resolve to strengthen bilateral ties between the two brotherly countries.

World should not leave Afghanistan alone in this testing time: Farrukh Habib

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Farrukh Habib has said World should not leave Afghanistan alone in this testing time.

Addressing a function here on Friday, he said Pakistan is expecting an inclusive government in Afghanistan and is in contact with world and regional powers in this connection. Farrukh Habib said Pakistan has been hosting more than four million Afghan refugees for the last four decades. He said India used Afghan soil against Pakistan in the past. He said Pakistan has lost more than 80 thousand people in the war against terror.

UK announces to release £30m of life saving support to Afghanistan’s neighbours

ISLAMABAD: UK Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Dominic Raab has announced that his country is releasing thirty million pounds of life saving support to Afghanistan’s neighbors including Pakistan.

Addressing a news conference along with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi after delegation level talks here on Friday, he said the aim is to provide shelter, household necessities and sanitation to the fleeing Afghans.

He said we recognize this problem and we want to be partner in solution with a key partner like Pakistan. He said the UK is mindful of the situation for Afghanistan’s neighbors and it will be shouldering its humanitarian responsibility.

The UK Foreign Secretary said his country also stands by its commitment for the Afghan future. He said during talks with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, matters of humanitarian lifeline and regional stability were discussed as well as the Afghan land does not again become a safe haven for terrorists.

Dominic Raab said we have also increased our aid budget for Afghanistan this year to 286 million pounds. He said we have evacuated fifteen thousand people to the UK and they are working together to secure a safe passage for others who have yet not get out of Afghanistan.

Describing his meeting with the Foreign Minister Qureshi constructive and cordial, Dominic Raab said both Pakistan and the UK enjoy strong relations. He said his country desires to take the relationship to the next level.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan and the UK have developed a platform to upgrade the bilateral relationship to a higher level. The Foreign Minister said he apprised the UK Foreign Secretary on the legislative and administrative steps taken by Pakistan to get out of the grey list of the FATF. He urged the UK to support Pakistan in the FATF.

He said the matter of red list was also taken up with the UK Foreign Secretary. He said Special Assistant on National Health Services Dr Faisal Sultan will hold a meeting with the British authorities on Monday and put forward Pakistan’s point of view.

China is role model for developing countries in poverty alleviation: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed his strong commitment to international cooperation aimed at poverty alleviation, sustainable growth and addressing climate change.

Addressing virtually a forum on 20th Anniversary of Juncao Assistance and Sustainable Development Cooperation being held in Beijing, he said COVID-19 has triggered an economic meltdown and slowed down global progress. The extreme poverty rose last year for the first time in over 20 years.

Imran Khan said achievement of food security, and improved nutrition, have become an even greater challenge for developing countries. Sustainable ways of achieving economic recovery, growth and development are critical, during the pandemic. He said Juncao technology is one such way which helps small-scale farmers to develop low-cost and commercial-scale mushroom cultivation.

The Prime Minister said China is a role model for developing countries in poverty alleviation. He said its stellar growth has brought eight hundred million people out of poverty over the last four decades. He said China’s leadership role in climate change is also highly appreciated. He commended President Xi’s vision of a prosperous, clean and beautiful world and initiative to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.

The Prime Minister said poverty alleviation and tackling climate change are his government’s key priorities. We have launched a wide ranking social safety program Ehsaas with an objective of uplifting marginalized people, eradicating poverty and supporting vulnerable households. Imran Khan said our Ehsaas Emergency Cash program cushioned the most vulnerable part of population from the economic shocks of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said Pakistan being one of the most climate vulnerable countries, fully supports international efforts to combat this scourge. He said we are progressing towards a Clean and Green Pakistan. He said we have already planted a billion trees as part of our ten billion tree project as part of one of the most ambitious efforts to expand and restore forests.

Pakistan desires stability in Afghanistan: Fawad

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhary Fawad Hussain has said Pakistan desires stability in Afghanistan.

In a statement on Friday, he said there is no new influx of Afghan refugees to Pakistan. He said the situation is not such that the Afghan people flee their country. He said Pakistan has influence on the Taliban but does not control them. He said we are trying that the Kabul airport reopens at the earliest.

Coronavirus claims 57 more lives over last 24 hours

ISLAMABAD: As many as 57 more deaths due to Coronavirus infection and 3,787 positive cases were reported in the country during the last 24 hours.

According to the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) statistics, 59,745 tests were conducted and positivity ratio remained six point thirty-three percent.
