Rahul Gandhi says Muslims being brutalised in Tripura

New Delhi, October 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said that Muslims are being brutalised in Tripura, asking how long the BJP government will pretend to be deaf and blind towards the attacks against the country’s largest religious minority.

Rahul Gandhi in a tweet criticised the saffron party-led government over the state-wide attacks on mosques and Muslim habitations in Tripura. A key Opposition leader in the country in a tweet said that the government was ‘pretending’ that there is no problem in the northeastern state.

More than 15 mosques and several houses, and shops belonging to Muslims were vandalised and burnt by Hindu paramilitary groups RSS, VHP, and Bajrang Dal across Tripura during week-long protests against Bangladesh violence so far.

Photos and videos show violent right-wing mobs, who wear saffron clothes and carry swords, raising anti-Muslim slogans during protests organised by Viswa Hindu Parishad, Hindu Jagran Manch, Bajrang Dal, and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

“More than two dozen of hate-crimes against Muslims happened across Tripura since last week. The authorities didn’t arrest any culprits,” Safiqur Rahman, an activist associated with Students Islamic Organisation (SIO), Tripura, said.

Muslims in a Tripura village have accused Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) members of molesting Muslim women after they were targeted by the Hindu paramilitary groups, a police complaint states. “At approx. 3 pm afternoon on 26 October 2021, a rally happened in Panisagar organised by Vishva Hindu Parishad. The rally was moving by Assam-Agartala roads to Chamtila via Roa Bazar. Some miscreant groups from the rally set fire on shops and vandalised it.

Shops were gutted in the fire. Additionally, they invaded and ruckus homes of residents living near to the market (Roa Bazaar). They sexually molested women. They had planned to attack Roa Jamia Mosque. In this grave situation, minority families are feeling insecurity. We would request to take necessary action under IPC against these miscreants,” read a rough translation of a complaint written in Bengali language.

The complaint dated 26 October 2021, was filed to Panisagar police station by seven Muslims, including two women residing in the Roa locality in Panisagar sub-division in North Tripura, 155 km from state capital Agartala. There were 3,500 people in the rally where anti-Muslim slogans were chanted.

“A section of VHP activists at the rally ransacked a mosque in the Chamtilla area. Later, three houses and three shops were ransacked and two shops set on fire in the Rowa Bazar area, around 800 yards away from the first incident,” Indian Express quotes Panisagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Soubhik Dey as saying.

Pakistan condemns vandalization of mosques and Muslim properties in India

Islamabad, October 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):Pakistan has strongly condemned the vandalization of several mosques, houses and shops of Muslims by radical Hindutva mobs in the Indian state of Tripura. Foreign Office Spokesperson, Asim Iftikhar, in a statement said these senseless attacks are continuing since last week. He said the state machinery has reportedly not only failed to protect Muslims and their properties but remained non-responsive to desperate calls for help by the local Muslim organizations.

The Spokesperson said in today’s India, there is little space for minorities and their way of life. He said it is equally condemnable that targeted and brutal eviction of Muslims from their decades-old homes in Assam continues unabated. Asim Iftikhar called upon the international community to play its role to stop the rising tide of Islamophobia and attacks against minorities particularly Muslims in India, and ensure their safety, security and well-being as well as protection of their places of worship and heritage sites.

30 detained after protests disrupt Juma prayers in Haryana’s Gurgaon again

Gurgaon, October 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):Muslims offering Juma prayers in a Gurgaon locality in the Indian state of Haryana were again faced with crowds of Hindu protesters – mostly from right-wing groups. The protesters shouting Hindu religious slogans appeared in Sector 12-A when the Muslims were offering Juma prayers. This was the 3rd straight week Juma prayers were disrupted in the area. Last week, Muslims praying in the area had to deal with a crowd shouting ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

Police were deployed in large numbers in Sector 12-A; around 30 protesters were detained. After vociferous protests earlier this month in Sector 12-A and 47 during Juma prayers, police acted quickly today. Visuals from today’s incident showed a small group of people (none of them wearing face masks) milling about, holding up cardboard signs and shouting “band karo, band karo” (Stop it, stop it).

Another video showed a few of them being led away by the police. A large number of cops can be seen in the clip, and police barricades have been set up all around. Police acted quickly to contain today’s protests, the authorities said.

“Everything is peaceful here. We have detained people who were here to disrupt namaz. We tried to negotiate with them over the last few weeks (but) have taken swift action today,” Gurgaon SDM Anita Chaudhary told media. “People have offered namaz in 37 designated places (and) full protection will be given to people who are offering namaz,” she said.

Among those challenging the namaz last week was a local lawyer – Kulbhushan Bharadwaj – who can be seen arguing with the cops. A former BJP leader, he represented the Jamia Millia shooter when he was arrested by Gurgaon Police for allegedly making communal speeches.

The week before that similarly tense scenes were seen in Sector 47 (a more urban area) when people were offering prayers outdoors on a government-owned land set aside for the purpose of prayers.

Both Sector 47 and Sector 12-A are on a list of sites that are part of 37 identified by the Gurgaon administration on which Muslims are ‘allowed’ to offer prayers. These were chosen after talks between Hindu and Muslims in the wake of similar events in 2018.

Pakistani, Kashmiri diaspora in Austria condemns Indian occupation in IIOJK

Vienna, October 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):The members of Pakistan and Kashmiri diaspora in Austria and Slovakia on Friday called upon the international community to take cognizance of the plight of people in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and work towards the resolution of the longstanding dispute.

In their remarks at a seminar organized by the Embassy of Pakistan in Vienna to mark the Kashmir Black Day, the speakers highlighted the various dimensions of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. The objective of the webinar was to condemn Indian actions of 27th October 1947 and continued state terrorism in IIOJK as well as to urge the international community to raise its voice in support of the long-suffering people of IIOJK.

Attorney at Law and Convener of AJK chapter of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq-led Hurriyat forum, Syed Faiz Naqshbandi focused on the mass human rights violations and draconian laws which were being used to crush the Kashmiris’ struggle for the right to self-determination.

Director at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad Dr Saif-ur-Rehman Malik focused on the illegal and unilateral action taken by India in August 2019 which had further exacerbated the plight of the people of IIOJK. Former Vice Chancellor of Sargodha University, Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad said that India must engage in good faith efforts aimed at resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

Professor and the Dean of Social Sciences at the International Islamic University, Islamabad, Dr Amna Mahmood, pointed out that the reign of terror inflicted on the people of IIOJK had exposed India’s hollow claims of being the largest democracy in the world.

Mushaal Hussein Mullick, prominent Kashmiri activist and the wife of Mohammad Yasin Malik, Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front, said despite their immense suffering, the courage and will of the women of Kashmir remained unbroken. She said the Bharatiya Janata Party regime in India was trying to render the people of IIOJK leaderless by targeting their leadership and was also taking measures to alter the demographic structure of the territory.

Ambassador Aftab Ahmad Khokher paid homage to the sacrifices rendered by the valiant people of IIOJK and said that the leadership and people of Pakistan remained steadfast in extending moral, political, and diplomatic support to them in their just struggle for the right to self-determination. He also read out the Kashmir Black Day messages of the President, Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister of Pakistan.
