Info Minister invites opposition parties to sit with govt on electoral, other reforms

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhary Fawad Hussain has once again invited the opposition parties to sit with the government on electoral and other reforms.

Talking to media persons outside Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) here on Tuesday, he said a joint session of the Parliament has been summoned tomorrow (Wednesday) to get passed the electoral reforms bills.

He said we will also welcome the suggestions of the opposition parties. He said the allies of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have assured their support and expressed their confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Chaudhary Fawad Hussain said it is highly appropriate that Islamabad High Court has taken a notice of the former Chief Justice Gilgit Baltistan Rana Shamim’s affidavit about former Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar.

UBG leaders concerned over devastating fire in Saddar

KARACHI: United Business Group (UBG) Patron in Chief SM Muneer, President Zubair Tufail, Khalid Tawab Gulzar Firoz and other leaders on Tuesday expressed their sorrow and concern over the devastating fire in Saddar Cooperative Market and burning of hundreds of shops.

SM Muneer, Patron on Chief of UBG, said in a statement that the property of three and a half to four hundred shopkeepers of the cooperative market has been reduced to ashes due to the terrible fire. The shopkeepers of the cooperative market have been paying taxes to the federal and provincial governments, so they have the right to have the government take steps to rehabilitate their damaged and restart businesses.

UBG President Zubair Tufail said that the shops owners Suffered more than Rs 2 billion loses. The government should immediately come to the aid of the devastated and distressed shopkeepers and make up for their losses.

Zubair Tufail demanded from the government that an investigation should be carried out and those responsible for this catastrophe should be given severe punishments. Chairman UBG Sindh Zone Khalid Tawab said that the government should announce immediate relief for the rehabilitation of the victims and it is the responsibility of the federal and provincial governments. In order to help the distressed shopkeepers immediately, immediate funds should be provided to revive the business of the shopkeepers.

Baba Guru Nanak’s anniversary ceremonies to begin at Kartarpur Complex tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: The ceremonies to mark the 552nd birth anniversary of Sikh faith founder Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji will begin at Kartarpur Gurdwara Complex tomorrow (Wednesday).

Thousands of Sikh Yatrees residing across the world and in India are arriving to attend the event. Meanwhile, a delegation of ten Afghan Sikh Yatrees arrived in Peshawar through Torkham border crossing today (Tuesday).

According to report, during their stay in Pakistan, the Sikh Yatrees would pay obeisance at different Gurdwaras including Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur.

16 more covid patients die in Pakistan

KARACHI: National Command and Operation Center on Tuesday reported that 16 more covid patients had lost their lives during the last 24 hours, raising the death toll from the pandemic to 28,618 since the outbreak of the disease in Feb 2020.

According to National Command and Operation Center’s daily data, 216 persons tested positive for COVID-19 during the past 24 hours while the total number of positive cases has surged to 1,280,092.

So far, 12,980 people have lost their lives due to the Covid in Punjab, 7,604 in Sindh, 5,801 in KP, 948 in Islamabad, 741 in Azad Kashmir, 358 in Balochistan, and 186 in GB.

Covid-19 claims six more deaths in country over last 24 hours

ISLAMABAD: As the Covid-19 prevalence significantly declines, six deaths have been reported in a single day yesterday (Monday) in the country.

According to the statistics of National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 216 positive cases were reported after 33,435 tests were conducted on Monday. The positivity ratio remained zero-point six four percent.

Sindh Governor opens mega fair in Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Imran Ismail on Tuesday inaugurated the three-day 17th World Trade and Industry Fair that will continue by November 18, 2021.

The stalls equipped with modern machinery, electronics and other products have been installed at the show. After the inauguration of the fair, the Sindh governor visited the stalls set up at the fair and inspected the products displayed there. He also talked to the organizers who him in detail about the products displayed on the stalls.

Later talking to media, the Governor Sindh said that holding of trade and industrial fair is welcome. Companies from all over the world are participating in the fair. “This festival is a message to the world that Pakistan is the safest country. Pakistani industrialists and traders should take full advantage of this festival as Pakistan is in dire need of modern technology at this time,” he said and added that this festival would further enhance the bilateral relations.

Responding to a question, the Sindh governor said that the coronavirus was under control due to government measures. He said that the Expo Center would be brought in line with the modern requirements. He also talked to the authorities in this regard. Replying to a query regarding the Green Line, the governor said that the Green Line project was in its final stages and after testing of buses, cameras and others, it would be opened to the public.

Third Committee of UNGA adopts Pakistan-sponsored resolution on countering disinfo

ISLAMABAD: The third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has unanimously adopted a Pakistan sponsored resolution that called for countering disinformation for the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Introducing the draft resolution, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Munir Akram reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to countering the virus of disinformation by all possible means.

He said Pakistan will continue to promote this by both national means and through international cooperation with member states and other stakeholders under the umbrella of the UN.

The resolution emphasized that business enterprises including online platforms and social media companies ensure that their commercial objectives do not undermine human rights.
