Punjab Local Government Act 2019 restored

LAHORE: The Punjab government on Sunday restored the Punjab Local Government Act 2019.

According to the notification, the Punjab government has also appointed local government administrators in all the districts while the Administrator Commissioner Lahore will be the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore.

It is pertinent to mention that the Punjab Local Government Ordinance 2021 had expired on June 8, 2021. The administrators of the local governments have also been appointed in all the districts of Punjab. It is to be noted here that the Punjab Local Government Ordinance 2021 had expired on June 8 last.

The Punjab government has issued a gazette notification for the restoration of Punjab Local Government Act 2019.Now, the administrative system of the local governments will be managed according to the Punjab Local Government Act 2013. The offices of the commissioners concerned will be divisional headquarters of the municipal corporations. The deputy commissioners concerned will be the administrators of the district councils.

The additional commissioners (revenue) concerned will be the administrators of the municipal corporations of Gujarat and Sialkot. The additional deputy commissioner of Murree will be the administrator of Murree Municipal Corporation. The administrators of all the union councils will be the assistant directors of local governments.

Cruel son kills father in Pano Aqil

PANO AQIL: A cruel son killed his father for not marrying him with a girl he liked in Pano Aqil town of Sindh on Sunday.

According to a report, accused Abdul Rehman wanted to marry a Punjab girl but his father Shahzado raised objection and disallowed him following which he turned irate and killed his father ruthlessly. The incident has created a mourning atmosphere in the house.

Police said that the accused had admitted to killing his father with knife attacks. The deceased’s body was shifted to a local hospital for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to the heirs. Further investigation into the incident was underway, said the police.

Larkana police recovered 51 kidnappees in a year: DIGP

LARKANA: Larkana Range Police on Sunday reported that they had killed 59 outlaws in 673 alleged encounters, injured 175, arrested 1348 criminals and confiscating a large number of weapons and contrabands from them.

The police also got released 51 abducted persons in this period during different operations, said Deputy Inspector General of Police, Larkana Range, Mazhar Nawaz Shaikh while talking to media on Sunday. He said that Larkana range police arrested 5910 wanted criminals, 8781 fugitives of law and confiscated 40695 kg contraband which include 2816 litres of wine.

He further said that 25 reported kidnapping cases emerged in the Larkana range during the year and 27 cases were unreported out of which 51 have been recovered.

CTD defuses bike-planted IED bomb in Quetta

QUETTA: Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Balochistan claimed to have defused an IED bomb planted in a motorcycle in an operation conducted on a tip-off in Quetta. One alleged terrorist of a banned organization was also apprehended during the operation.

According to a statement issued by the Spokesperson for CTD, Balochistan on Sunday, staff of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), intercepted a suspicious motorcycle on a tip-off in Quetta. Upon checking, Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was found planted in the motorcycle. One alleged terrorist namely Nizam-ud-Din alias Khalid, key member of a eight-member terrorist group of a banned organization, was also apprehended during the operation conducted in Quetta on a tip-off provided by an informer.

Spokesperson added that bomb planted in the motorcycle was defused by the staff of Bomb Disposal Squad, Balochistan, adding that during investigation, the alleged terrorist confessed that he was intending to carry out terrorist activity either near High Court of Balochistan, Session Court, Frontier Corps Balochistan or Balochistan Police.

The alleged terrorist during interrogation further confessed to have carried out several terrorist acts along with his other accomplices, including suicide attack on DIG (Teli), Hamid Shakeel, IED blasts on RRG’s truck and FC’s truck on Meconghy Road, suicide attack in the car parking lot of Quetta Serena Hotel, IED blast near the truck of Pakistan Army parked near BA Mal, Quetta, IED attack near the truck of Balochistan Constabulary (BC) on University Chowk, Sariab Road, Quetta. During investigation, it revealed that the said alleged terrorist group was involved in carrying out IED blast planted in a motorcycle outside Bukhari center, Qandhari Bazar, Quetta.

Detained terrorist also confessed to have carried out IED blast outside the entrance gate of Government Science College, Quetta after the public meeting of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Nazreyati), besides his involvement in the target killing of Hazara community persons’ in a shop at Fatima Jinnah road area of Quetta. Spokesperson for CTD, Balochistan said that raids were being conducted for apprehending other members of the alleged terrorist group.

Russia wants to enhance economic ties with Pakistan: CG

KARACHI: Consulate General of Russian Federation in Karachi extends every possible support to Pakistani side to strengthen bilateral contacts and cooperation to the benefit of both countries.

This was stated by Consul General of Russian Federation Andrey V Fedorov during an interaction with media at the Consulate, according to a press release issued on Sunday. He said for increasing the bilateral volume, the two countries had to broaden the dimension of their economic cooperation. There was big untapped potential in almost every sphere of trade partnership. The bilateral trade was mainly confined to commodities although many other products and services were available to offer to each other.

Fedorov said Pakistan could export to Russia surgical instruments, leather and sports goods. Pakistan had also huge potential in information technologies and pharmaceutical sectors. Pakistan was also interested to buy cancer medicine due to its high effectiveness and reasonable price, he added.

The envoy said that commercial attaches of both the countries were also working hard to elevate bilateral trade and economic cooperation to new high level. He said his country was ready to provide all necessary assistance to execute Pakistan Stream Gas Pipeline project from Karachi to Lahore.

Russian envoy mentioned that his government was closely monitoring the developments around Pakistan Steel Mills. “We are waiting for completion of international tender auction and ready to share necessary information with Russian companies to prepare their offers for participation in the revival and modernization of PSM,” he said adding that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and special economic zones provided tremendous opportunities for enhancing our bilateral trade and investment.

The Consul General said Pakistan and Russia could receive another boost as last week Pakistan’s Finance Minister Dr. Miftah Ismail had expressed Pakistan government’s interest to buy Russian oil.

“Russia is open for cooperation with any political party as long as the relations are mutually beneficial and constructive,” he reaffirmed. He said Russia was interested in developing relations with entire world including Pakistan. Russia considered Pakistan as a friendly country and when friendly countries have a discussion at negotiation table they agree on everything. Russian CG also replied various queries from media persons.

One killed, four injured in Balochistan incidents

KALAT: One person died while four others, including two women, sustained injuries in two different road accidents in areas of Balochistan province on Sunday.

According to rescue sources, a motorcyclist died after he was knocked down by a passenger coach near Burma Hotel in Sariab Road area of the provincial capital. The deceased was identified as Hayatullah Awan, 55, son of Khuda Bakhsh Awan, a resident of Bashir Chowk, Quetta. His body was shifted to Sandeman Provincial Hospital Quetta for completion of codal formalities. The body was later handed over to the heirs after fulfilling necessary medico-legal formalities.

The incident has created a mourning atmosphere in the victim’s house. Further investigation was being conducted by the authorities of concerned police station. Separately, four persons, including two women, sustained injuries when a vehicle they were travelling overturned near Budrung area of Tehsil Munguchar in district Kalat of Balochistan province.

According to levies force, speeding red-colour-Indus vehicle No. ADS-630 turned turtle near Budrung area of district Kalat, resultantly, four persons, including two women, sustained injuries. On information, levies force Kalat reached the site of accident and shifted the injured to Shaheed Nawab Ghous Bakhsh Raisani Hospital, Mastung for treatment. Further investigation was being conducted by the authorities of levies station, Munguchar.

Woman killed, man injured over land dispute near Khanpur

KHANPUR: A woman was killed and man injured over a land dispute in Mirwah area near Khanpur on Sunday.

According to police, three cousins had developed a dispute over a piece of land as the dispute intensified a woman, Irshad, wife of Gul Mohammad Jatoi, was shot dead and a man, Allah Rakhio, Jatoi, injured in Mirwah area of Khanpur taluka.

On information police rushed to the scene and started a probe into the incident. No arrest could be reported yet. The body and the injured were shifted to a local hospital for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to the heirs.

A tense situation prevailed in the area after the incident as there was hue and cry in the house of the victims. Arbelo Jatoi told police that their cousins killed woman and man ruthlessly and without any crime. He demanded of the IGP Sindh and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to take notice of the issue and provide justice to them; otherwise, they would hold a protest demonstration against the police.
