Live shells littered by Indian troops endangering life of villagers along LoC areas in IIOJK

Jammu, September 14, 2022 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, live shells littered by the Indian Army here and there pose threat to the life of villagers in the areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu region. A constant threat for villagers in these areas persists in the form of live shells, lying here and there in the villages along the LoC. They can trigger loss of both life and property, in case of minor fiddling which can cause an explosion.

Officials said that around one dozen such live shells were found and later destroyed in the last five to six months and fortunately none of these recovered shells exploded. They said that these live shells were seen by villagers in open areas or in their fields after which they informed nearby police stations or Indian Army camps. They said, thereafter the Indian forces launched operations to destroy these shells through a controlled mechanism performed by bomb disposal squad of army or police.

The officials said that more such live shells could be lying in villages along LoC. “You cannot deny that these are death traps lying in villages and a minor fiddling with these shells can cause explosions resulting in losses,” they added.

Shabbir Shah denounces IIOJK authorities’ malicious attempt to seize Waqf lands, properties

Srinagar, September 14, 2022 (PPI-OT):Incarcerated Vice Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, has taken strong exception to the malicious attempt by the authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir to seize Waqf Board lands and properties throughout the territory.

Shabbir Ahmad Shah in a message sent from New Delhi’s infamous Tihar Jail and released in Srinagar said that it was unfortunate that the RSS-influenced fascist Narendra Modi-led Indian government after snatching every right from Kashmiris was now hell bent on seizing the Waqf Board lands and properties all across the territory. He termed it as an infringement into the religious affairs of the Muslims.

The APHC Vice Chairman said that occupation authorities were planning to occupy Srinagar’s Eidgah. He said, owing to its religious and historical importance, Eidgah has been a sacred place for Kashmiris and they would resist tooth and nail any move aimed at grabbing it. He said the RSS and BJP nexus wants to use the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board as an important weapon to advance its Hindutva agenda in the occupied territory.

He said that the apartheid regime wanted to destroy the socio-ethnic and religious identity of IIOJK thereby occupying all religious and politically important places in the valley. Referring to the ‘Shakha Sangam (meeting of RSS units)’ program, he said that Hindutva organization was giving training to its workers under the program so that Muslims can be killed in the region on the pattern of 1947 massacre.

Shabbir Ahmad Shah also voiced serious concern over the continued killing of innocent youth by Indian troops in IIOJK. He urged the international community to hold India accountable for the crimes being perpetrated by its troops in the occupied territory.

Meanwhile, APHC leader, Khawaja Firdous, in a statement issued in Srinagar said Kashmir is an internationally recognized dispute pending resolution for the last over seven decades. He said India, which had taken the dispute to the United Nations itself, is the biggest hurdle in its settlement. He said that New Delhi was now attempting to mislead the world by portraying that Kashmir is a bilateral dispute between Pakistan and India.

The APHC leader deplored that instead of fulfilling its promise of giving the Kashmiris their right to self-determination, New Delhi has virtually turned IIOJK into a military garrison where all basic rights and freedoms of the people have been usurped. He said India is using different tactics to suppress the Kashmiris’ freedom struggle but will never succeed in its nefarious designs.

Khawaja Firdous appealed to the government of Pakistan to intensify its diplomatic campaign to highlight the Kashmir dispute at the international level. He also called upon the international community to play its role in resolving the lingering dispute in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions and Kashmiris’ aspirations.

On the other hand, APHC leader and Chairman of Democratic Hurriyat Forum, Chaudhry Shaheen Iqbal, at a meeting with the leaders of the constituent parties of AJK-chapter of his forum in Rawalpindi apprised them of the ground situation of IIOJK. He said after August 5, 2019, India has stepped up its atrocities on the people of the territory.

Chaudhry Shaheen Iqbal said India has unleashed the nefarious propaganda to equate the Kashmir freedom movement with terrorism but the world community has realized that the Kashmiris are engaged in a just struggle for securing their right to self-determination guaranteed by the UN through its several resolutions.

Chaudhry Shaheen Iqbal said Pakistan’s policy regarding Indian aggression in Kashmir is very clear, but there is a dire need to strengthen it and build the international pressure to force India to stop the blatant violations of human rights in the territory.

Pakistan urges UNHRC to stop India’s crimes in Kashmir

Geneva, September 14, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan has urged the United Nations Human Rights Council not to remain a passive bystander as India intensifies the suppression of fundamental rights and freedoms of the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan’s permanent representative to the UN office in Geneva, Ambassador Khalil Hashmi, in the 47-member Council’s general debate which began in Geneva on Tuesday said, “In the face of eerie silence by some members of the (Human Rights) Council, the crimes of self-professed largest democracy are getting entrenched, and its sense of impunity being rewarded.”

He reiterated Pakistan’s call on the Council members to force India to rescind its unlawful actions, halt the illegal demographic changes, put an end to human rights abuses, allow access to independent observers and urge the Office of United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to issue an updated assessment on Kashmir.

“To lend credence to the notion of accountability, the Council members should act on the recommendations of the two OHCHR reports for establishment of a Commission of Inquiry on occupied Jammu and Kashmir,” the Pakistani envoy said. “This Council cannot afford to remain a passive bystander in the face of independent evidence of India’s grave violations. Silence and shielding an oppressor is undermining the universal cause of human rights and further eroding the credibility of this Council.”

Action on part of the UNHRC was necessary as India continues to stonewall calls for access, he said, adding it continues to alter the demographic structure of the occupied region in blatant defiance of international law; it continues to draw a physical and digital iron curtain; it continues to kill, maim, torture, arbitrarily detain and forcibly disappear the Kashmiri youth, women and elderly – by invoking the canard of “terrorism”.

To hide these crimes, Ambassador Hashmi said, India has muzzled local media, silenced civil society and denied access to independent observers, pointing out that not a single member of Indian forces has ever been punished due to pervasive impunity afforded by draconian laws, a pliant judiciary, and hand-picked local administration.

The Pakistani envoy also delivered a statement to the Council on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). “The human rights situation in occupied Jammu and Kashmir remains a matter of deep anguish for us,” the OIC statement said, urging India to implement the applicable UN Security Council resolutions as well as recommendations addressed to it in OHCHR’s two Kashmir reports.

“We reiterate our strong demand for reversal of all illegal and unilateral measures taken on or after 5 August 2019, including reversal of illegal demographic changes in the occupied territory,” it said. The OIC urged the OHCHR to continue monitoring the human rights situation in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and to produce an updated report.

Armenia-Azerbaijan clash: India’s no military solution assertion contrary to its actions in Kashmir

New Delhi, September 14, 2022 (PPI-OT):Although India has admitted that there can be no military solution to any conflict but this assertion is contrary to New Delhi’s actions as it continues to suppress the Kashmiris’ just freedom struggle through military might. According to Kashmir Media Service, amid the fresh fighting along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, India has called upon the two countries to immediately cease hostilities, saying that there can be no military solution to any conflict.

The spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Arindam Bagchi, talking to reporters said India believes that the disputes should be settled through diplomacy and dialogue. We have seen reports of attacks along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, including targeting of civilian settlements and infrastructure on September 12-13, Bagchi said. “There can be no military solution to any conflict. We encourage both sides to pursue talks to arrive at a lasting and peaceful solution,” he said.

There has been a raging military conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh, a strategically located mountainous enclave. Armenia said around 50 of its soldiers were killed in clashes with Azerbaijan over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. Nagorno-Karabakh is known to be a part of Azerbaijan. Armenia took control of some parts of the territory in the 1990s. The situation deteriorated in September 2020 after Azerbaijan attempted to regain certain areas.

It is ironic that on one side, India is calling upon Azerbaijan and Armenia to settle the dispute through talks, but on the other, New Delhi itself is trying to impose a military solution to the Kashmir dispute and is not willing to settle it through democratic means of negotiations and diplomacy.
