Hundreds of citizens took out a rally here on Thursday to protest against the alleged misappropriation of public funds by Faqirabad Town Committee Chairman Nisar Khaskheli over the past two years.
The demonstrators, holding placards and chanting slogans, marched through the city, demanding accountability and action against the chairman.
The rally was led by Faqirabad Town Council’s lady councilor and noted social activist Sanam Rajpar, along with community leaders Zameer Hussain Bhatti, Zahid Shabani Baloch, and other prominent citizens.
Addressing the protesters, Sanam Rajpar accused the chairman of siphoning off the town’s monthly budget, leaving the city without any developmental progress. ‘Not a single rupee has been spent on public welfare,” she said.
Rajpar further stated that a petition against the chairman’s alleged corruption had been filed and expressed hope that justice would prevail. ‘We will not rest until the people’s basic rights are secured, and this corrupt chairman is held accountable,’ she asserted.
Zameer Hussain Bhatti, another speaker at the rally, alleged that the chairman uses intimidation tactics against those who speak out. ‘Anyone who dares to raise the voice is subjected to baseless accusations and harassment. The people of Faqirabad are deprived of even the most basic amenities, including drainage systems, while the chairman focuses solely on his corrupt practices,’ Bhatti said.
The protesters vowed to continue their struggle until action is taken against the chairman and he is removed from office.
The residents demanded that higher authorities take immediate notice of the corruption and negligence in Faqirabad Town.
The protest reflects the growing frustration among the residents over the lack of infrastructure and governance in the town, with many calling for urgent reforms to address the pressing issues.
