Advanced Greenhouse inaugurated at Tandojam varsity with Turkish agency cooperation

A state-of-the-art greenhouse has been inaugurated at Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam, through a partnership with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency.

According to SAU information on Saturday, the new facility is designed to boost crop production and offer protection against plant diseases.

The inauguration ceremony was jointly led by Turkish agency head for East and South Asia, Pacific, and Latin America, Dursun Ali Yasacan, and SAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Fateh Marri.

Marri, speaking at the event, stressed the importance of innovation across all sectors in Pakistan due to the country’s growing population and limited resources. He acknowledged Turkey’s vital role in supporting Pakistan’s developmental initiatives.

Marri also revealed that an agreement between Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission and the Turkish Embassy would allow approximately 5,000 Pakistani students to pursue higher education in fields such as agriculture, technology, and health in Turkey.

He noted that the newly established greenhouse was equipped with advanced technologies for seed development, plant protection, and environmental control tailored to seasonal needs. Additionally, he highlighted the university’s Umerkot campus, which focuses on advancing agriculture in Thar’s desert regions, and the Khairpur campus, which supports the date farming industry. Marri revealed plans to expand collaboration with Turkey on enhancing date production, packaging, and marketing.

Mr Yasacan underscored the long-standing friendly ties between Turkey and Pakistan. He highlighted that his agency had successfully completed over 800 development projects in Pakistan over the past 14 years, including establishing modern laboratories for agricultural and livestock innovation.
