In view of recent tragic accident on Baberloi Bypass, a top meeting of officials from local administration, National Highway Authority, Regional Transport Authority, and Motorway Police was held at Commissioner Sukkur Division’s office on Monday, which banned parking of vehicles at city point Sukkur and Baberloi Bypass to avoid deadly accidents.
The meeting was presided over by Commissioner Sukkur Division Fayaz Hussain Abbasi and attended among others by Director (Maintenance) NHA Jahangir Larik, and officials of Motorway Police and Regional Transport Authority Sukkur.
The meeting expressed sorrow over the tragic loss of five lives in a recent accident at Baberlo Bypass and took a briefing from the NHA and the Motorway Police on the matter. The commissioner directed that no transport vehicles be allowed to park at the Baberlo Bypass and the City Point Sukkur. He instructed the Deputy Commissioners of Sukkur and Khairpur that passenger vehicles should only be allowed to stop at bus terminals, and that U-turns at unsafe locations should be closed to prevent accidents.
He further stated that due to ongoing construction work on the flyover, large pits had been dug, which posed a risk of further accidents due to inadequate lighting and signaling. He instructed NHA officials to arrange proper lighting within three days and submit a report. Commissioner Sukkur also directed that bus stands and parking of transport vehicles near the flyover be immediately prohibited to prevent any harm to passengers.
