Lansdowne Bridge opened after renovation work completes

The historic Lansdowne Bridge’s pathway over the Indus River, which connects Rohri with Sukkur, was opened today after the completion of its restoration and renovation work.

Provincial ministers, including Energy and Planning Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Culture Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah visited the bridge and attended a ceremony held to mark the renovation work completion. Sukkur Mayor Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh, District Council Chairman Syed Kamil Haider Shah, and social activist Suhail Memon were among the attendees.

A documentary detailing the bridge’s history was presented during the ceremony, followed by the official ribbon-cutting for the restored bridge and its new pedestrian pathway. ‘This is a momentous day,’ Nasir Shah said, noting that the ceremony coincided with both Quaid-e-Azam’s birth anniversary and Christmas.

‘This project not only enhances the beauty of the bridge but also addresses safety concerns for pedestrians and visitors.’ He urged the federal government to restore the Mohenjo-daro Airport to facilitate international tourists, as well as to increase flights at Sukkur Airport.
