Sindh Cabinet Committee Approves Key Funding Initiatives Across Various Sectors

Karachi: In a recent meeting, the Sindh Cabinet Committee on Finance, chaired by Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, approved several significant funding allocations intended to bolster various sectors, including education, infrastructure, and cultural promotion.

According to a statement by Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division), the committee sanctioned Rs.120 million from non-development funds for the solarization of the 400kW Sanghar Cadet College. This decision follows extensive consultations and the removal of objections by the Planning and Development Board. The committee emphasized the need for cadet colleges to utilize their funds efficiently to eliminate future reliance on government grants.

The meeting also addressed infrastructure needs with a focus on road construction in District Sujawal, which commenced in 2021. With Rs.29.88 million already expended, the committee released an additional Rs.47 million to complete the project. However, conditional approval was given, requiring a commitment not to send a review summary for additional funds.

In a move to promote Sindhi culture, the committee directed the agenda for a Rs.20 million grant to be sent to the Sindh Information Department. This funding aims to support cultural initiatives through Sindhi drama, films, and web series, backed by a Rs.1 billion fund allocated within the Information Department.

Attention was also given to healthcare, where the Kidney Center’s request for a Rs.500 million grant was discussed. The committee has tasked the Health Secretary with compiling a detailed report for further consideration in the next meeting.

The committee approved the expansion of the Sindh Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, with a budget of Rs.600 million. This includes Rs.200 million from non-development funds, with the remainder earmarked for the next financial year’s development schemes.

Additionally, the rehabilitation of rain and flood-affected sections of MNV drains was approved, emphasizing the need for WAPDA to fulfill its financial commitments. The committee postponed the decision regarding a consultant appointment for the School Education and Literacy Department to the next meeting.
