Jeay Sindh Mahaz Stages Rally Against Six New Canals Project

A five-kilometre rally was organized today by Jeay Sindh Mahaz from Makli to Thatta against the decision to build six new canals from the Indus River and corporate farming projects.

Participants raised slogans, demanding withdrawal of water diversion plans and fair distribution of Sindh’s water share. The march began from Public Park Makli, led by Jeay Sindh Mahaz Vice Chairman Nawaz Shah Bhadai and others.

The rally concluded in front of Thatta Press Club, where demonstrators staged a sit-in and shouted slogans against new canal plans. Speakers maintained that the federal government’s canal and dam constructions in Punjab were drying out the lower Indus region.

They pointed to worsening water shortages in Thatta and nearby coastal areas, highlighting a lack of drinking water and continued decline in Kotri downstream flow. According to them, millions of acres of land have already been submerged by seawater.

Speakers urged immediate cancellation of canal projects and demanded provision of Sindh’s rightful share of Indus water to avert further environmental and agricultural damage.
