ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier: Pakistan and West Indies Secure Wins on Opening Day

The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Qualifier commenced with thrilling matches as Pakistan and West Indies clinched victories over Ireland and Scotland, respectively, on the opening day.

Ireland, opting to field first against Pakistan at the Gaddafi Stadium, saw an early breakthrough with Feroza Gull’s dismissal for 4. However, Muneeba Ali and Sidra Amin’s partnership steadied the innings. Aliya Riaz’s aggressive 52 off 58 propelled Pakistan to 217, despite a late collapse. Ireland’s Jane Maguire impressed with 3/33 in her 10 overs.

In response, Ireland’s Gaby Lewis and Amy Hunter provided a solid start, but Nashra Sundhu’s pivotal three-wicket haul shifted momentum back to Pakistan.

Meanwhile, at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground, West Indies faced Scotland. After winning the toss and fielding, West Indies initially struggled against Scotland’s openers. A key partnership between Megan McColl and Sarah Bryce stabilized Scotland’s innings, leading them to 244. Hayley Matthews excelled with 4/56, dismantling Scotland’s top order.

In the chase, Matthews, alongside Zaida James, guided West Indies to 120/1 before a few quick wickets brought Scotland back into contention. Nevertheless, Matthews’s resilient performance with the bat kept West Indies on course for victory.
