A ceremony was organized by the Fine Arts Committee of the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi to pay tribute to the renowned artist “Ghalib Baqar (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz)” at the Ahmed Pervez Art Gallery. The President of the Arts Council, Muhammad Ahmed Shah, made a special appearance on this occasion.
Chairman of the Fine Committee, Farrukh Shahab, welcomed all the guests. Mehar Afroze expressed her thoughts, stating that she has known Ghalib Baqar for fifty years and his work has always been appreciated.
Dr. Ambreen Haseeb Anbar said that Ghalib Baqar makes water his friend in his work. She further added that the color blue is not just a background in his work but plays a fundamental role.
Moin Farooqi noted that a sense of childhood can be seen in Ghalib Baqar’s work and mentioned the depiction of natural landscapes in his art.
Aamira Ali remarked that Ghalib Baqar’s art acts as a bridge between art and literature. The beauty of the Urdu language is reflected in his watercolor artworks.
Khalid Khan mentioned that Ghalib Baqar is among those teachers who help students understand their mistakes and highlighted his expertise in watercolors.
In the ceremony, Ghalib Baqar expressed his gratitude, stating that he stopped using the color white after 1972. He thanked the Arts Council and all the distinguished participants.
Shakeel Khan performed the duties of hosting the ceremony.
