In a significant development for the flood-affected areas of Punjab, the construction and restoration of crucial protective embankments have been completed in record time, acting on the high-level directive of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to secure vulnerable communities.
The Chief Minister praised the efforts of the Provincial Irrigation Department, especially congratulating Irrigation Minister Kazim Ali Pirzada, Secretary Wasif Khurshid, and their entire team for their swift and effective execution of the critical infrastructure projects.
A major focus of the restoration efforts was the Noraja Bhutta Bund in the suburban area of Muzaffargarh. Officials have confirmed the completion of a 1960-foot-long protective embankment. A large 1250-foot breach caused by the previous flood has been filled, transforming the structure into a robust 3450-foot-long protective barrier.
These extensive works also include the finalization of a 23,000-foot distributary track in Hafiz Wala, located along the motorway. In the same area, breaches totaling 410 feet on two different roads have been successfully filled.
Work on another large 33,700-foot breach is nearing completion, with over 80% of the filling work finished and the remaining work being rapidly concluded. Additionally, the filling of a 283-foot breach on the fourth canal has also been completed, further strengthening the region’s water management system.
