A large number of farmers, political figures, and social activists united on the streets of Talhar on Wednesday, holding a rally, demonstration, and sit-in against rice mill owners and commission agents, alleging that they are manipulating rice prices to their detriment.
The protest began at Bawani Sugar Mill Chowk. The procession moved towards Farooq-e-Azam Chowk, where the group staged a sit-in, causing significant traffic disruptions. According to the protestors, rice prices are being unnecessarily reduced as a result of unethical practices by rice mill owners and commission agents, affecting their livelihoods.
Adding to their grievances, the protestors highlighted the troubling practice of deducting up to 5 kilograms per maund of rice, which has further exacerbated their financial hardships. The allegations also implicated the district administration of Badin in this alleged exploitation.
In a passionate appeal, the protestors requested Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the Sindh government to intervene and rectify the situation. The demonstrators emphasized that immediate and decisive action is needed to protect the agricultural community from these alleged injustices.
