The twentieth death anniversary of folk singer Zarina Baloch, who was affectionately called “Jiji”, was observed today.
Zarina Baloch was born in Goth Allah Dad, Hyderabad. In 1960, she honed her vocal skills under the mentorship of Ustad Muhammad Juman at Radio Pakistan Hyderabad.
Baloch’s extraordinary talents were soon recognized when she secured the first position, surpassing six hundred other participants in a singing competition organized by Radio Pakistan. Her captivating voice and acting skills mesmerized audiences in numerous Pakistan Television programs and dramas.
Her artistic excellence earned her prestigious accolades such as the Shah Latif Award and the Qalandar Lal Shahbaz Award.
Zarina Baloch’s sudden death in Karachi in 2005 was a great loss to the world of folk music.
