Temperature below freezing point in mountainous areas, smog forecast in the plains of Punjab

The temperature has dropped significantly in the northern and mountainous areas of the country, where the temperature was recorded below freezing point in several places, while smog and light fog are likely to prevail in the plains of Punjab.

According to the bulletin issued by the Meteorological Department on Wednesday morning, the weather will remain mainly dry in most parts of the country. The cold wave is expected to continue in the mountainous areas.

The temperatures recorded in major cities this morning included eight in Islamabad, twelve in Lahore and sixteen degrees Celsius in Karachi. Other recorded temperatures included ten in Peshawar, minus two in Quetta, four in Murree and five degrees Celsius in Muzaffarabad. It was very cold in Gilgit, where the mercury dropped to minus two degrees Celsius.

In occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the weather is expected to remain cold and dry in Srinagar, Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian and Baramulla. Severe cold weather is forecast for Leh, while the weather is likely to remain dry in Jammu.

According to the temperatures recorded in the region this morning, it was freezing point, i.e., zero degrees Celsius in Srinagar and eleven degrees Celsius in Jammu. It was a severe cold minus six degrees Celsius in Leh, while minus two degrees Celsius was recorded in both Pulwama and Shopian. The temperature in Baramulla was recorded at minus one degree Celsius.
