Family of Sacked Policeman Endures ThreeMonth Protest Amid Poverty and Missing Child

The family of a dismissed police constable has been holding a sitin for three months outside the Karachi Press Club, grappling with extreme poverty, the disappearance of a child, and an indifferent administration after the officer was fired for taking leave to care for his ailing wife.

The protracted protest by the Ghotkibased family of former official Amanullah Bozdar today drawn the attention of the Pakistan TehreekeInsaf (PTI), which has announced it will file a constitutional petition in the Sindh High Court seeking his reinstatement.

Acting on a directive from PTI Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh, a party delegation visited the protesting family to express solidarity and assure them of comprehensive support. The delegation included senior party members Dr Jaipal Chhabria, Muhammad Ali Baloch, Advocate Khan Zaman, and others.

Advocate Khan Zaman confirmed he would legally represent the former constable, stating that Bozdar was dismissed from service due to his absence from duty while attending to his sick wife. Zaman announced his intention to file a petition in the high court to secure the officer’s reinstatement.

Speaking to the media, Dr Jaipal Chhabria, Convener of PTI’s Human Rights Committee, described the incident as a “clear reflection of the worst failure of the Sindh government, the police system and institutions responsible for child protection.” He noted that unemployment and the lack of medical facilities had pushed a “helpless father into severe distress,” forcing his children to collect garbage for survival.

Chhabria lamented that despite the disabled mother and her children protesting on a footpath for 90 days, the Sindh government, Social Welfare Department, and police authorities have maintained “complete silence.”

PTI spokesperson Muhammad Ali Baloch called the situation “extremely distressing” and underscored the state’s fundamental responsibility to ensure the immediate recovery of the family’s missing child, Aftab. He demanded that the household receive immediate financial, medical, and legal assistance and called for Bozdar’s employment issue to be resolved on humanitarian grounds.

Sam Khan, Additional Information Secretary, stated the party would directly engage the Inspector General of Sindh Police on the matter and would utilize every constitutional and legal forum to seek justice for the family. He added that remaining silent on such human tragedies was “tantamount to complicity in injustice.”

Ayesha Rasheed, PTI’s Secretary for Welfare, contrasted the family’s plight with public welfare claims made by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, reaffirming that the party would stand firmly with the affected family to ensure they receive medical treatment and all possible aid.
