Federal Minister Unveils Rs 170 Million Mosque

A new Grand Jamia Mosque, constructed at a cost of Rs. 170 million, was officially opened on Tuesday at the Narowal Campus of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) by Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Professor Ahsan Iqbal.

The facility has a total capacity for 1,250 worshippers, with space to accommodate 1,000 male and 250 female students in separate, dedicated galleries. The structure, described as a blend of Islamic calligraphy and modern design, is intended to function as both a place of prayer and a centre for intellectual and moral enrichment.

During the inauguration ceremony, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal highlighted the crucial role of such facilities in educational institutions for the spiritual and ethical grooming of youth. He asserted that combining contemporary education with Islamic values is essential for developing a responsible and well-balanced nation.

The minister commended the academic and infrastructural development at the UET Narowal Campus, acknowledging the contributions of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Shahid Munir and his administration. He expressed hope that the mosque would become a symbol of unity, discipline, and spiritual tranquility for the university community.

In his remarks, Vice Chancellor Dr. Shahid Munir thanked the Federal Minister, stating that the new mosque is a practical demonstration of UET’s vision, which prioritises character building and moral training alongside high-quality education.

The event was attended by a host of university officials, including Campus Coordinator Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shehbaz, Vice Chancellor University of Narowal Dr. Khalid Younas, Registrar Muhammad Asif, and Director Pand D Professor Dr. Rashid Hamid, along with faculty members and a large student body.

The ceremony concluded with a collective prayer, as participants expressed their appreciation for the mosque’s architectural design and serene environment.
