Karachi Mayor Announces 100 Solar-Powered Homes for Minority Community

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced a plan to construct one hundred solar-equipped residences for families from the Hindu community in Union Council Chowkandi, District Malir. The announcement was made during the mayor’s visit to the district to inspect ongoing development works.

According to an information by KMC today, during his visit, the mayor, accompanied by local political representatives, met with residents to discuss the housing initiative. The proposed homes are intended to be energy-efficient, featuring solar power systems to address both accommodation and electricity requirements for the beneficiaries.

Mr. Wahab also informed residents of plans for broader city development in the upcoming year. He stated that Karachi is set to receive additional funding for several large-scale projects aimed at upgrading urban infrastructure, including roads, public utilities, and other civic amenities.

The mayor attributed the initiative to the Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) public welfare agenda, citing the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Faryal Talpur. He asserted that the party’s focus on public service is a response to political criticism.

According to the mayor, the housing scheme for the minority community is a reflection of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision for an inclusive society. “This city has always belonged to Bhutto and will continue to do so,” Mr. Wahab said, adding that the goal is to ensure every citizen has access to basic facilities and security, regardless of their background.

This housing programme is reportedly part of a wider Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and PPP strategy focused on housing, minority welfare, and environmentally conscious development. Mayor Wahab concluded by reiterating his administration’s commitment to enhancing public service delivery and improving the quality of life for all Karachi residents.
