Pakistan’s Envoy to US Declares 2026 a Pivotal Year for Bilateral Cooperation

Pakistan’s top diplomat in the United States has declared the current year as pivotal for transforming opportunities into practical outcomes, stating that while 2025 saw positive trends in bilateral relations, 2026 is expected to be a year of concrete results.

Addressing the media at the Embassy of Pakistan today, Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh described the prospects of the relationship as ‘positive and clear’ and stressed the need to advance mutual interests in all possible areas.

The ambassador underscored that cooperation between the two populous nations is not merely a choice but an “essential and unavoidable necessity” driven by geographical, economic, demographic, and social factors.

Mr Sheikh asserted that history demonstrates positive results whenever Pakistan and the United States have collaborated, describing their past ventures as rare examples of large and successful partnerships in modern history.

He noted that high-level contacts initiated since the current U.S. administration took office have created a positive impression, reinforcing a shared commitment to a long-term partnership anchored in economic ties.

In this context, the envoy specifically identified minerals, energy, information technology, health, education, and counterterrorism as key areas for enhanced cooperation.

Referring to ongoing dialogues between the two countries, the ambassador stated that Pakistan’s efforts are focused on advancing cooperation across all areas in a well-organised and institutionalised manner.
