Bhutto’s Nuclear Programme is Pakistan’s Security Guarantee, States Senate Chairman

Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani asserted on Monday that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s historic decision to initiate Pakistan’s nuclear programme serves as the ultimate guarantee of the nation’s security, enabling a decisive response to any external aggression. The statement was part of a tribute marking the 98th birth anniversary of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) founder, whose services, Gilani noted, represent a glorious chapter in the country’s history.

In his commemoration, the Senate Chairman credited the former prime minister for his unforgettable contributions to the promotion of democracy, protection of human rights, and the supremacy of the people. He highlighted that it was under Bhutto”s visionary leadership that Pakistan received its unanimous Constitution, which provided strong foundations for the federation and ensured the protection of citizens” fundamental rights.

Gilani remarked that the people-centric vision and political wisdom of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto remain a guiding light for the nation. He emphasised that adhering to Bhutto”s ideals could empower the poor, farmers, labourers, and women, integrating them into the national mainstream.

Furthermore, the Chairman suggested that providing complete protection and equal rights for minorities would promote harmony and prosperity, helping the country to overcome its challenges and secure a place among developed nations.

The tribute also extended to other members of the Bhutto family. Gilani paid homage to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, noting that her achievement as the first woman prime minister of the Muslim world proved the immense leadership potential of Pakistani women. He also acknowledged President Asif Ali Zardari for carrying forward the political legacy by strengthening democracy through the transfer of presidential powers to Parliament.

Looking to the current leadership, Gilani said that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari possesses all the essential qualities required to effectively lead the country”s youth. He described the unparalleled sacrifices made by the PPP for democracy, women”s rights, and the welfare of the underprivileged as a rare example in history.
