Pakistan and Somalia today reached an understanding to significantly enhance their cooperation on counter-terrorism and security matters, following a high-level meeting in the capital on Friday.
The accord was formalised during talks between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and a visiting Somali delegation led by his counterpart, Interior Minister Ali Yusuf.
Both parties consented to the adoption of a joint strategy to combat terrorism and extremism, alongside bolstering collaboration in training, border management, and disaster response.
Minister Ali Yusuf highlighted that his country is contending with difficult circumstances and is actively fighting terrorists. He expressed optimism that the visit would further solidify the relationship between the two nations.
The Somali official also conveyed his government”s readiness to benefit from Pakistan”s extensive experience in the fields of policing and counter-terrorism operations.
In response, Minister Naqvi affirmed that Pakistan comprehends the challenges confronting Somalia and pledged to provide comprehensive support in its anti-terrorism efforts.
As a gesture of goodwill, Mr Naqvi also announced a new visa facilitation policy for Somali citizens travelling to Pakistan for medical treatment and educational purposes.
The visiting dignitary appreciated the measures taken by Mohsin Naqvi concerning Islamabad”s infrastructure development.
He also formally presented a special message from the Somali Prime Minister for Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and extended an official invitation to Mohsin Naqvi to visit Somalia.
